If you don’t sail with Vieques Sailing Charters and Captain John, you are doing life all wrong. From the palette-shifting rum punch and hummus/crackers (shoutout Sarah), to the perspective-altering deep history lessons on the area, to the life-changing plunge into the reefs of the Caribbean, we had an absolutely wonderful time aboard the Avalon with Cptn John & Ryan. They are both wonderful people (along with our hostess & chef Sarah) and will take you to the best spots surrounding Vieques. If you visit the island (which we highly recommend), book this tour immediately. – via google

Highly recommend Captain John and his crew. Captain John knows everything about sailing and had lots of interesting facts about Vieques. He makes a mean rum punch and an awesome fruit/cheese plate along with crackers/hummus. My husband has bad knees and they were very accommodating in helping him off and on the boat. – via google

We had a wonderful time on this excursion. We think it is a must do on VIeques. Our hosts, Sara and Captain John were So professional, gracious and knowledgeable. We had a great time on the boat, even had a chance to captain it thanks to the confidence and abilities of the ships captain John. Also, Sara promised a healthy reef (by today’s standards) and she was completely right. We saw all kinds of wonderful Coral, some of it quite rare such as Elkhorn Coral. She also knew the reef so well that she was able to show us the homes of eels, octopus, and stingray. We got to see them all and alsoAas a special bonus we got to swim with a school of squid which was amazing. The other thing that was great was that Sara didn’t just tell us to get in the water and snorkel around, she gave us an outstanding introduction to snorkeling, how to use our equipment, how to enter the water safely, how to snorkel on the reef without damaging it. We have plenty of experience snorkeling and despite that we found all kinds of helpful tips in what she had to say. Then she gave us a tour of the reef so we benefited from her extensive knowledge. And we had terrific drinks and great snacks. These are two sailors who obviously love what they do and are delighted to welcome guests to their home on the water. Don’t miss it! – via google

Take this tour. Not only is the snorkeling a great time, but this is a true sailing adventure. Captain John and crew are skilled sailors who performed the whole tour under sail, which is fascinating to experience. The drinks and snacks were great, and learning some of the history of Vieques from the Taino, to the Spanish, the pirates, and the US military, was excellent. They also talked about the coral reef ecology, including some of the threats that the reefs in Vieques are currently facing, and how we can help. If you’re looking for an island vibe snorkel tour in the sun with snacks and rum punch, you definitely found it. But if you want even more (real sailing, history, ecology), then this tour is the one! Can’t wait to come sailing again in spring! – via google

Sailing with Vieques Sailing Charters was simply amazing! Captain John and his assistant Ron were absolutely hilarious and joked around with us but were super professional at the same time and gave us great information not just about sailing but about the island, their history and once we snorkeled also about the different fish species. Overall, it was one of my best experiences on the island and can only recommend it to every visitor! – via google
