I flew in from San Pedro to the mainland and was met by James who transported me to teakettle about an hour and 15 min inland to the tour site for the ATM cave tour.
My guide was Francisco and I could not have imagined a better guide to take the group I was paired with through this breathtaking cave system. Francisco was experienced, knowledgeable, and you could tell he had a very vested interest in the history and culture that used this cave for sacrifices of different kinds.
I’ve been through multiple caves including Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, usa,and this tops that experience easily. You’ll be exposed to swimming across rivers, squeezing through tight spaces, and climbing down and up throughout the cave tour. On more than one occasion I definitely thought Francisco was serious about not all of us returning from the tour but he managed to bring all of us through it relatively unscathed and in one piece!
Definitely book with Up Close Belize Tours and hope Francisco is your guide! He will deliver an experience you are not soon to forget. This is bucket list material here and you’d be dumb to not see this cave while you’re in the country visiting! I cannot recommend him enough. – via
