I do not recommend coming here for the time being, the construction has made the place a nightmare. The place is under construction at the moment so alot of the places are gone, the place is now hard to navigate and the construction will not he finished until 2024. Most of the hotel restaurants are also under construction and won’t be opened until the summer.
The room I stayed in had the wall paper peeling off, someone tried fixing it with scotch tape, I am unsure why no one could just fix it with wallpaper glue.
The water for the shower barely gets hot, so good luck taking a bath as it would be cold in less than 10 minutes. While taking a shower I had times where the water went cold. The pull part does not work properly for the shower, so you lose shower pressure.
The older pillows smell like old men and sweat, they need to be washed or donated to a shelter. The room otherwise seemed and smelled clean.
The town this is in is very small and only has 4 restaurants that close at 9 or an undisclosed time, as this is what the workers told me “it depends on how busy it is”. An additional resturant is inside of the hotel. There are 2 breakfast places that close at 2.
For the positives:
They provide shuttles into town and to the activities. In addition to this, you can also have the place you are at call the hotel to recieve a shuttle back.
From 2-4 in the Commonwelth room they have tea time which is free and serves chocolate chip cookies, (which are delicious) cider and tea.
I tried out the Virginia wine experience and our host Gwen was absolutely amazing, she was welcoming, friendly and accommodating, her cheerfulness brightened my day. As for the wine, the flights were very good and so was the $10 glass of Shiraz / Syrah. Overall I had an amazing experience here thanks to Gwen. I also took a look at the charcuterie board, it was fairly large, it had 3 types of cheese, 1 meat type, fresh pickled something that is a topping, chili pepper jam, and fresh vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and more.
For the price people are paying for this hotel, these problems are completely unacceptable. This place could be compared to a 2 star hotel, the only reason I give it a 3 is because the workers are very polite, super friendly, and will make your day happier. I very much appreciate them. – via
