As we would be cruising the Caribbean, with a stop at Grand Turk, we were searching for a stingray snorkeling tour. We didn’t want to book the tour via the cruise line, or any ‘normal’ tour, as we don’t like the big boats/crowds nor we like the stingrays to be fed and lifted on your bag. Let nature be as it is.
We found very good reviews of The Humpback Dive Shack and via the information on their website we concluded this would be our trip to book. (Unfortunately no humpbacks for us to spot as the season was over.)
Via email we had contact and we were booked for our trip during our visit. We’ve received clear instructions on were to meet once we would arrive at Grand Turk.
From the dock it’s a short walk to the pick-up location and there we met Sabine and Brain, the owners of The Humpback Dive Shack. And as it turned out, we were the only ones that day for the trip to Stingray Island (Gibbs Cay). We could leave ahead of all the other tours and we had a lot of time for ourselves to explore the waters at Gibbs Cay, while Sabine and Brain gave us instructions from the boat about where to look for the stingrays. Extra treat, we also spotted a turtle!
While we were doing some more snorkeling, Brain set up the picnic area on the beach, including shade! This is rather important, as the sun is really burning. While we were talking about our snorkeling experience we were offered some nice fresh fruit, cheese and crackers and drinks. We also had time to make a walk around the small island which is interesting as the other side is rough compared to the beach side.
After Gibbs Cay we went to the other side of Grand Turk were there was a nice riff were we had a second snorkeling stop. Here we spotted a lot of colorful fish. It was breathtaking.
Both Brain and Sabine know so much about the flora and fauna and are willing to share all their knowledge with you. They don’t only bring you to the spots, but also show you where to look, inform you about names and history. We had the best of times, made so many pictures and had great conversations with our guides.
When you visit Grand Turk, please consider The Humpback Dive Shack. You will not get any better service and you can enjoy a small and personal tour. – via

A group of us military moms booked this company for our day in port during a recent cruise as they offered snorkeling as well as watching. The weather was sunny but very windy and swells were huge. The cruise ship canceled the whale watching excursion they had. Capt Brian talked to us before hand. Explaining the difficulties trying to find whales in rough seas, motion sickness, getting soaked in the boat and offered a full refund. Nope, We all went! Rough seas, they provided raincoats & dry storage, no one got sea sick AND found a whale! At no time did any of us feel we were in an unsafe environment. AWESOME experience with 2 fab people! Will do it again in a heartbeat! Snorkeling was absolutely amazing as well! Brian & Sabine take great care in what they do and their respect and care for the environment is beautifully visceral. I learned so much about whales that day. If I am ever in Grand Turk again, this will be my 1st stop!
Thank You Brian and Sabine! – via

We had a wonderful snorkeling excursion today with Brian and Sabine of The Humpback Dive Shack. They took us to several stops and ensured we were back in time for our cruise departure time. If you want customized service and you want to avoid the cattle type excursions from the cruise ship, Humpback Dive Shack is the way to go! – via

Our trip was cancelled but only after my credit card was charged the full amount. Sabine sent a very polite message explaining the situation that they could not accommodate our cruise ship times due to already being fully booked. Viator said the refund would unfortunately take several days to process.
I understand that sometimes things don’t work out, but my card should not have been charged since they couldn’t accommodate. There should be a better way to book/pay only if availability is sure.
I reached out to ask if there were any other local companies they could recommend to help make my (and a friend’s) dream vacation come true, and somebody replied that I aught to come back next year, stay for a week AND book three trips with them. What a joke. If by some miracle I win the lotto, I will come back and book a trip with a company who goes the extra mile for a potential customer and supports other local businesses. While I hope it was not the intent — Brian making this suggestion not knowing our financial situation or my friend’s health status was truly rude and thoughtless. – via

My wife and I booked a dive trip with Brian and Sabine abord the Spyhop the week of Thanksgiving. We had the most amazing time. Definately the best excursion we booked the whole cruise. We arrived to a clean boat with a great captain and Gunther and off we went. NO crowded cattle herded boat. The dives were amazing. CHEERS – via

Our family had a great time and tour today with Humpback Dive Shack. We met up next to the cruise ship dock and made it back with plenty of time. We went to Gibbs Cay and saw a ton of sting rays that come right up to you. Gibbs Cay is about a 20 minute boat ride and only accessible by boat. We also took a snorkeling tour and saw many colorful fish, 2 sharks, barracuda, needle nose, turtles, and coral. The guides were great and we had a good time exploring around. You don’t have to book through the cruise lines, just get online and book a tour here and beat the crowd to Gibbs Cay. – via
