Honest review, I am a dive master and have about 400 dives. …

4.0/ 5

Honest review, I am a dive master and have about 400 dives. The staff who work front desk are all great, very nice and helpful. They have multiple options most days whether you want to go to Cozumel, cenotes, or dive local in pdc. They have golf carts to take you to the boat which is nice.

The dives:
Day 1 went local with Joaquin I believe, he was nice seemed knowledgeable and the dives were good. Unfortunately for myself, my oceanic computer decided to die on this day, I looked at my depth gauge on the rented equipment I was using and it was not working. No problem, we were not diving very deep and I stayed at the depth of others and had no issues. I pointed to the gauge at the end of the dives when back at the shop and told him this was the one that didn’t work and he told me they will not replace just for the depth, as long as the pressure portion works.

Day 2 went on 3 dive cenotes and had a great time! Excellent and knowledgeable guide.

Day 3 went to Cozumel. I rented equipment this trip because I didn’t want to haul my gear. This trip, as I was setting up I turned on the air and there was a slight but constant leak from the gauge. I showed the guide, he gave me the backup regulator. I put it on and tested it and it seemed fine. As soon as we began to descend, I knew this reg was going to be trouble. There was a constant freeflow of air, not at full freeflow but enough that I knew I was going to have to watch my depth, air intake, and constantly check my pressure. I tried the venturi knob on the second stage but it did not fix the issue. I thought about swapping to the octo, but realized that the freeflow was only on the exhale. If I swapped to the octo it would have been freeflowing plus I would be breathing with the octo. I told the guide under water that I am losing air, I am ok, but my pressure is going faster than normal. At 34 minutes I had 1000 psi, I began to ascend, I found the guide and at that point it was down to 800. I told him my pressure and that I would do my safety stop. I did my 3 minutes and and signaled to the guide I would be surfacing. Ended with about 200psi. Unfortunate to have a dive that is further away, costs more, and had more life than local ruined by bad gear. When I worked as a dive master I always made sure my backup equipment was good for this reason. The second dive I swapped back to the leaking gauge and was able to have a longer more enjoyable dive. I told the front office staff what happened that day and they said they would discuss this with owner and guide. The next day I came in and they knew about the situation from the day before, but apparently hadn’t set the reg aside. If I was the guide that day I would have marked that reg for repair.

Day 4 dove local, I wish I remember this guides name. She was the best of the trip. She dove with dive rite bcd, I forget her name. Long dives, she seemed very experienced, was kind and personable. Great day of local diving. Also, this morning they tested my gear before leaving because they did not want similar issues.

Day 5 last day local diving and was decent. For some reason the first dive, we were led against the current basically the whole time. Not sure why we were led in the wrong direction.

I would dive again with this shop. Nothing is ever going to be perfect. I would bring my own gear though, theirs is in need of going through. Maybe I’m spoiled by some of the past instructors/guides I’ve worked with. Some at this shop were great. Others could use improvement.

Update: the owner reached out to me again and apologized for the equipment issues. I think a shop should be judged by how they react when things don’t go perfect, and it’s clear that the owner cares about making things right and improving where possible. – via google

I don’t know where to start with this dive center. They are absolutely amazing, and I don’t want to mention anyone with name, because everyone here go out of their way to deliver the best service ever.

I took my Advanced open water here to dive with sharks. I had never been diving before, so I had to fill out some paperwork with the health clearance and all that.

The thing is that I have a heart condition, that i crossed yes on, so they where not allowed to put me in the water. I got really disappointed and acted like a child (I’m sorry)

The thing is, they really did care. They actually drove me to tje doctor, and waited with me, so that the doctor could give med clearance. Goog luck finding any dive school that would do anything like that.

And even when I clearly showed that I was disappointed, they went out of their way to be both polite and fix the issues for me.
The doctor unfortunately did not show up before several hours later, so there was no diving for me that day. But they booked me in a couple days later and the instructors where amazing.

I had several instructors and all was amazing.

Finishing of with the shark dive and sharing that experience with the other people diving and you dive instructor, really is a special thing.

All the people I have met in this shop deserved credit and are amaizing human beings. Thank you for a great experience. – via google

My wife and I had an amazing week diving with guides Pablo, Coral, and Patrick. We spent a day at the cenotes, dove some epic underwater cliff faces off of cozumel, and found some amazing marine life near play del carmen. We have dove all over the world, but will be sure to be returning customers to Tank-Ha! – via google
