Seaweed Farm Tours! Yes, that is a thing. Perhaps you have enjoyed one of the many delicious seaweed shakes while in the village. Perhaps your skin glows or your hair shines because of the magical properties of seaweed. Well, now you can actually see where and how seaweed is tended and harvested in this one of a kind tour led by the legendary Miss Mo and Sunny Side.

My family and I were scheduled to take the tour to Silke Caye and the turtle spot but rough seas made that inadvisable, so Sunny Side offered us the opportunity to go to Ivan’s Caye and then a tour of Miss Mo’s own sea weed farm.

This is a tour that is not to be missed. Ivan’s Caye, is a small quirky little caye, that is the epitome of chill Belizean hospitality, perfectly funky atmosphere with amazing snorkeling. Seriously, why this place is not more popular is beyond my comprehension.

After much snorkeling, hanging out and a bbq lunch we gathered round to listen to Miss Mo talk to us about sea weed farming and its imperative presence to the ecosystem and the economy. We hopped into the boat and headed out for a swim and snorkel around the farm. Wow. Just wow.

I was looking to book a snorkel tour in Belize for my family group of ten. I found the various options to be really expensive. Most charged between $100 to $150 per person. Most had large boats and so you went out with groups often as big as 30 or more. Private boats for 10 were even more expensive. I booked with sunnyside tours because I got a reasonable price that I could afford. Because of their name and the better price that I got, I was expecting that they were just a booking agency booking local small boat operators for us. I was really happy to see that they have a store and a slip with boats. The service and experience they provided was great. The captain and crew where great, educational, and accommodating. The environmentally active crew works on the side restoring reefs and growing seaweed. They were happy to take us snorkeling and then added some fishing as per our request. We went out twice with them. I realized that the bigger and more expensive outfits have bigger boats and waste a lot of time and money driving many miles around the peninsula to pick up customers at their locations. We drove to Sunnyside’s location and the boat used for our group was perfect in that it was sized for about 10 to 14 people. You cannot go wrong with these guys. – via google

We booked a snorkeling excursion to Silk Caye & Turtle Alley with Sunny Side tours – THEY WERE FANTASTIC!!! Our resort was in Placencia and they sent a taxi to pick us up & drive us back after the tour.
We had an amazing captain and guide!! Our youngest daughter had never snorkeled before & they were extra helpful, making sure she was comfortable and could be involved to see everything.
They provided one of the best lunches, super delicious (especially the potato salad) & my family couldn’t stop snacking on the ginger cookies.
Our family was the only one on the tour the day we went out & the staff was so accommodating and flexible. Because of their experience and knowledge we were able to make it to turtle alley in time to see turtles, eagle rays, sting rays, and a nurse shark. Off of Silk Caye we saw amazing fish, including a Barracuda!! They also made a stop for us at Ray Caye so we could spend some time on the island and enjoy the sun.
Warren and his crew are so great!! We highly recommend then for your excursion(s) while in Belize!!! Thank you Sunny Side Tours!! – via google

Our guide was local from Placencia and an amazingly knowledgeable woman with a willingness to answer any questions we had. She was kind helpful and observant. She was well aware of the possible dangers of interacting with wild animals as they feed or are riled up from certain situations (human caused and other) and she did everything a guide could possibly do to give us an excellent experience while keeping us safe! I really had no idea that learherhead turtles could be aggressive with each other! When one charged near my partner she gently moved him aside while enabling us to watch the fascinating exchange! Really an amazing tour with kind and helpful locals! Also the captain of our boat was really experienced and made the choppy bumpy waters as comfortable as possible without sacrificing speed! I would recommend this company to my family and friends knowing they would receive the best possible experience! Thank you so much! – via google

Both were amazing experiences w excellent tour guides both times, who were very knowledgeable of the wildlife and history of the region. We saw all the animals we had set out in hopes to see!
