On 2/17/2024, I took the next step in my scuba diving journey and purchased the primary stage, secondary (regulator), octo, and submersible pressure gauge.

Instead of purchasing on-line, I made the decision to purchase from a local brick-and-mortar dive shop – Splash Water Sports Inc.. I wanted to support Splash because the staff have been so helpful during my decision making process of what gear to purchase. Additionally, they have been very welcoming in getting me started in to the local dive community. I always enjoy going there.

I made a self-imposed commitment to not purchase my own gear until I got my Open Water Scuba Diver certification. Having achieved that, I decided it was time to take the plunge and start purchasing my own gear.

Since coming back from Playa del Carmen (in Nov. 2022), I have been diving regularly on the weekends at local pools with a frienddive buddy. We rent our gear from Splash Water Sports, Inc.. Now that I have the regulator, etc., the only things I’ll have to rent are tanks and weights.

In terms of regulators, I went with the Aqualung Helix Pro (DIN). Like everything, the sky is the limit on what you can spend for gear like this. However, from everything I’ve read on-line, including testimonials, the Helix Pro is a great regulator. I will not ever exceed its capabilities.

Splash is a diamond in the rough and does a great job at guiding through a dive journey at the pace of the diver. Back in 2019 I saved up the points needed for a comped hotel in the Maldives & I said “I’m not doing this trip that I’ll probably never do again without knowing how to dive”. So I found Splash, a padi 5 star shop, & I did my Open Water certification just so I could dive in the Maldives. I never thought I’d go farther than being open water & little did I know how wrong I was.

A month & a half later I did my first real dive in Belize. My friend had a $200 United Voucher & she said “Julie, you’re the only person I know who will know what to do with this. Something needs booked in 24 hours to be flown in 12 months. Can you use it?”. I looked & almost booked Shanghai for April 2020 because the flight was $427, but by the time I checked out it went to to $790; in hindsight worked out well because nobody was traveling internationally in April 2020. Though, I found a flight to Belize for $307 that departed two weeks later. I went to Belize, booked a 3 tank dive of North Turneffe & the 2nd dive was 85 ft. I thought to myself “self, I think I need more training because the max depth is 60ft for my rating”. Some insurance claims won’t help if you dive below your rated depth. I got my Advanced open water with Splash in 2020.

Then, in 2022 I took a cruise ship dive in Roatan & my dive buddy didn’t speak up during the briefing & never said he didn’t know how to drift dive. So, he needed rescuing & I felt like I couldn’t help. I told that story to Jeff, one of the owners of Splash, & he suggested the rescue course, which I took at the end of 2022.

I knew 2 more specialties would kick me over to Master, so I did the Lionfish specialty in Bonaire this past March & then the Drysuit in July. If it wasn’t for the guidance of Splash and their sincere want to help the customers and community I don’t think I would have gone as far as I have. They truly helped me turn a one time vacation into a passionate hobby. – via google

Answered my many questions upfront, worked around my busy schedule, provided top-notch training with experienced teachers, provided all equipment necessary for training dives, and made the entire certification process fun and virtually stress free. All I had to do was show up on time. When you factor in the equipment, the expert trainers, the quality of locations (Dormomt Pool and Crustys Quarry), and the time spent under water, $500 for three pool sessions and four quarry sessions seems like a steal. Wish I had done it 5 years ago. – via google

I do not dive and did not go here so I cannot speak to that aspect of their business, however, I can speak to the excellent customer service I recieved from two members of their team. As I was driving by one day, I noticed the amazing retaining wall behind their building. I called to find out if they knew who did the work as I have been looking for someone for my property. The man who answered did not have the information but he did take down my name and number to pass on to someone who might know.

Sure enough, a week or so later, I received a call from a man named Jeff explaining that the retaining wall was in place when they aquired the spot.

If they give that much attention to a random person calling on the phone, imagine how wonderful they must treat their customers! Kudos to the owners, managers, and staff for doing things right. – via google
