Solid Surf is such a special place!

I took a solo trip hoping to relax, reflect, and learn to surf. The staff and volunteers were so welcoming, kind, talented, and patient. I am so grateful for everything they did for me – teaching me to surf, helping me plan, keeping me safe, and very well fed! Yesner made sure everything went smoothly, taught me all about the area, helped me translate, and made me feel like family. Solid Surf is small and well designed to build a natural camaraderie that between the guests. The people I met are really what keeps such a special place in my heart for this place.

The grounds were incredibly peaceful with lots of shade, a yoga deck, and options for lounging. Low tide was always interesting, with a lot of beach to walk and lots of tide pools to explore. You could make it a ‘working vacation’ with ample table space and strong enough wifi for zoom calls.

It was a great place to learn to surf – reliable, not crowded, and not a lot of dangers (rocks, coral, etc.). I’m so grateful to Jacob for his surf instruction – he was motivating, patient, safe, and genuinely excited to see his students succeed. Seems like a great place for surfers of all levels – there were enough advanced surfers around that I could always find someone to answer my naive questions.

Martha’s food was amazing. I did the ‘basic all inclusive’ package which included breakfast and dinner. It was so filling that snacks/fruit for lunch were usually enough. The price was a little more than you’d pay for a meal in town but it was so delicious/varied and so relaxing not to have to make any decisions about where/what to eat that it’s a great thing to include if you aren’t on a super-tight budget.

It was such an incredible experience and I can’t wait to go back! – via google

A TRANSCENDENT EXPERIENCE. A lot has been written in other reviews about the physical attributes of this fruit excellent getaway, so I’ll focus on what makes this lovely place unique – and that is the people.

Under the watchful, maternal eye of Martha, who also is the best cook of Latino food we have ever come across, the team that runs this haven goes out of their way to provide excellent, attentive and thoughtful service.

The best part of any day here is the evening when the rays of the setting sun seem to irradiate the entire property with a magical light. These long and lazy hours are ideal for Happy Hour, with freshly made Piña Coladas and Margaritas, or ice cold Toña beers. Lounge in the hammocks or

There are other places up and down El Transito beach. When we visited, they were nice but a bit too frenetic for our taste, with loud music and the kind of “look at how cool I am” vibe associated with “influencers” desperate to show off their beautiful lives. We saw none of that at SOLID; it is an authentic, calm oasis of peace and quiet.

There is a huge variety of surfboards you can rent and mats upon which to do yoga or exercises. We would also highly recommend you get massages by Hector who is incredibly good at what he does – at an incredible price! – via google

I stayed in Solid Surf for a week and booked the package with surf lessons and breakfast/dinner. It felt like paradise in this little town! Marthas cooking skills are amazing and I enjoyed the 1:1 surf lessons with Jacob a lot. The place is relatively quiet compared to the Free Spirit Hostel (which has a lot of partying, apparently), but Solid Surf was just perfect for relaxing and enjoying a week of surfing as a beginner. I felt very well taken care of by Yesner who has many amazing talents such as Barkeeping, Photographer, Tourguide and many more! All the staff was super friendly and we had great conversations together.
I would definitely recommend staying there! – via google

I spent a week at Solid Surf on the beach in El Transito. I cannot recommend it enough! If you want a quiet place to read, relax, and surf, then Solid Surf is a fantastic option. I bought the all inclusive option. This included surfboard rental, an open bar, and two meals a day, among other options. Martha, the cook, prepared delicious and varied food with nutritious ingredients. She was very accommodating of a dairy allergy. The staff were extremely attentive, helpful, and kind. Thanks to the Solid Surf team for making it such an incredible week! – via google

We loved our stay so much at SOLID. It’s the end of slow season so when we arrived it was very quiet and honestly we were sceptical of the place. However once we settled in this was a surfers paradise. I can’t explain how well we were looked after. We got the all inclusive package, so we had breakfast and dinners made- Martha cooked amazing local dishes and Jesnar made sure we had everything we needed. We had “happy hour” drinks from 5-7 where he made us the best Margaritas and had our choice of drinks. I think usually the bar is actually open with a bartender and is maybe more lively but this suited us just great, and we had another couple with us to eat and drink with.
The place got busier over the week with it being quite full by the end of the week. I would say this is not a party hostel at all, people are here to surf and relax and we made some great friends (some that come back there continuously). Daily routine is sunrise surf, breakfast, hammock chill all day, sunset surf, dinner with drinks, early bed time- repeat. If you do feel like more party, you can head to Free Spirit Hostel down the beach where they are welcoming and have more of a party vibe going on. The place is LITERALLY located on the beach break, walk out with your board and surf (the BEST), plus UNREAL sunsets!!!

The quiver of boards to choose from the surf rack was great and Junior + Jacob were both awesome surf instructors. We didn’t do any of the other activities that we were hoping to do (sand volcano tour, fishing, boating to other surf spots) but honestly we were totally happy with our beach/surf week. We were confused as we thought those were included with our all inclusive package but it was actually paid extra activities and most people were on a budget so we couldn’t split costs with them. I think the website could use some improving to avoid this confusion and lay out specifically what is Included. If you are an experienced surfer I don’t think you’d need the all inclusive package, (but the meals and drinks are definitely awesome to have + surf board, so I think we’d do it it again).

We also stayed In an AC private room which was very large. Keep in mind it’s a third world country, basic and some what clean.

Also, I’m sure the place gets much more lively during high season and I know things are slowly getting more in routine here as they recover from COVID.

This place is HEAVEN if your goal is to surf your brains out, relax, and meet fellow like minded travellers. It is not a “luxury” hotel, or a party hostel. It was paradise for us though 🙂

We would absolutely come back here and we are very happy we stayed here!!! Miss the place and everyone already!!! – via google
