I was extremely excited for my dive charter with Sea Dragon. I travelled from Ontario to dive in British Columbia’s beautiful coastal waters. Upon arrival, the shop was closed with no sign of employees. I tried to call the business, but there was obviously no answer. I waited in the parking lot for about an hour, until 9AM.

At this time it was supposed to be our scheduled departure, when Kevin, the company owner, finally arrived. He proceeded to inform me that the tour had been cancelled days prior, and would not be running. I had not been contacted whatsoever with this information, and drove almost two hours just to be turned away. I completely understand that mechanical or weather cancellations can happen. I even understand if a charter is cancelled due to lack of customers. However, the extremely poor communication and disorganization shocked me. Next time I am on the west coast, I am excited to dive with a company that is a bit more organized. – via google

For everyone out there who hates the cold like me, let me tell you, this adventure was great and I did not freeze! I was joking when I checked it that I am someone who gets cold at lunch eating outside on a 70 degree F day, let alone snorkeling in the ocean.

Our guide, Sam, noted we would be in 5mm wetsuits with wetsuit gloves, boots/socks, and the option to take a hood after I told her I thought I was going to freeze. This was all foreign speak to me at the time, but like I said, I did not freeze!

On the way out, the boat came across a humpback whale, so the captain killed the engine and let us watch the whale for about 5-10 minutes due to passenger interest.

Once out at the first snorkel location, we slid into the water. Our guide Sam said you would feel cold for about a minute and then you would feel fine after that, which was true. It’s cold as the water comes into the wetsuit (as it’s supposed to), but then it heats up and all is good. We swam with Sam a bit over to a nearby rocky area with seals. We snorkeled in the area for about 30 minutes or so seeing other creatures too including mussels, crabs, and starfish.

After the first snorkel area, we headed back into the boat. All passengers were offered a cup of hot chicken noodle soup while the captain drove us to the next location. I mentioned I was gluten free and could not eat noodles, so I instead was offered a cup of hot chocolate, which I happily took.

At the second area, passengers had the option to snorkel again, kayak, or stand-up paddle board. My boyfriend chose to snorkel again, while I chose to stand-up paddle board. On my adventure, I stayed warm in the wetsuit (despite not being in the water and being in the shade) and was able to paddle with the other paddle boarders and kayakers along the shore. We saw several different areas of seals in and out of the water, starfish, seagulls, and a deer! I was able to get relatively close to the seals on the paddle board. If anyone got too close and they felt threatened though, they would all start jumping in the water and swim away, so it’s a delicate balance of watching them while giving them enough space to feel comfortable.

On my boyfriend’s second snorkel adventure, he noted it was colder snorkeling in the shade (first time was in the sun) and by the end he said he was starting to get cold in the wetsuit. At the second area, he was in the water, in the shade, swimming much less than in the first area, but he was able to watch seals on the bottom underneath him and other sea creatures in the water. Plus he was able to watch the seals on the shore. Some of the seals in the water were very curious and would swim with 10 or so feet of him!

After the second stop, we all boarded the boat again and were told if we wanted to jump off the upper deck, we were more than welcome to (a standing tradition started by a child a few years ago who asked to jump). We had a small group and everyone decided to jump! (Though some of us, including myself, needed a bit of extra coaching/cheering to get up the nerve!) After that, we all climbed back on board and were given a cup of hot chocolate during the ride back.

Our guide, Sam, and our boat captain were both great and we had a great time! Plus I bought one of the underwater phone cases they sold at the check-in desk so I even have some cool pictures from in and under the water to share with friends/family. This is a great company and a great trip. I would definitely recommend it! – via google

The swimming with seals expedition was one of the most amazing I’ve been on. The crew and staff are so friendly and they’re just as enthusiastic as people going on the excursions. They really go above and beyond to ensure you’re comfy in your gear and happy with hot soup and hot chocolate. The expedition itself was special too and we got to see so many seals and even a whale sighting! It was a truly amazing experience and I couldn’t recommend it more. – via google

We had the best time!! We went as a family of 4 (children 13 and 10) and this was a perfect trip for us. Check in was smooth and the team was great at getting us fitted and ready to go. Once on the boat the adventure begun. The staff and captain were very nice and chatted with all of the passengers. Snorkeling in the seal cove was awesome. The seals were all around, a bit shy, but very curious. At the second stop we did kayaking and it was so much fun, but so peaceful at the same time. The water was very calm and we could have sat there and just watched the seals play for hours! Unfortunately the trip had to end. Thank you team, made our trip to Vancouver a huge success! – via google

My friends and I enjoyed this tour over Labor Day weekend. Late in the season we had a wonderful day! We saw a humpback on the way out! Sam, Shula, and Kevin were excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable guides. Our first snorkel spot gave great views of seals and birds. This was more of a float and view. Then we travelled to another island where we split to kayak or continue snorkeling. Both were great with good seal encounters, but for me this was the spot to snorkel. Seals and other marine life abounded. After our first snorkel we got soup (yummm) and then hot chocolate on our way to the harbor. I recommend bringing shoes that can get wet and an underwater alternative if you wear glasses (they don’t fit under the mask). The timing was accurate and the pre-trip instructions clear. Thank you Sea Dragon Charters!!! – via google

Going on their snorkel and kayak tour and seeing the seals was worth every penny to me. All of the guides were amazing and super kind, it felt really personable. If there are people who are having trouble for any reason, they will stay by you kindly until you get comfortable and won’t leave a second sooner. Plus they give you tasty soup and hot chocolate to warm up after being in the cold water. The views were really stunning. Would highly recommend! – via google

Snorkeling/diving with this shop is a MUST if you are a water lover visiting Vancouver. I was on the snorkel tour with Chris, Brad, and Sam. They provided all of the gear, were super knowledgeable about the area, and just generally fun to be around. The next morning I went diving with Matt. At first the dive had been canceled, however, Victor went out of his way to find a way for me to dive. After arriving back at the shop for my dive, Jan triple checked I had all the gear I needed. My dive with Matt was unforgettable, i felt safe and learned a lot about marine life in the area. Overall, spending time at this dive shop felt like spending time with friends. I was sad to leave and can’t wait to come back! – via google

I had an amazing experience with the Brazilian dive instructor. I hadn’t dived since I was a child and was scared because it was a bad experience. She was a very kind, clear and patient instructor who helped me overcome my fear and made me confident about giving it a go again. Sorry I have forgotten your name. Thanks so much Rick – via google

Loved the place. The staff are amazing, professional, helpsome and kind. They where very attentive and helpsome both for my dry suit certificate and the boat tour later. I felt totally safe and my dive instructor Victor Malhame was good and very patient with me, making it some very fun dives.
We went on the smaller boat that day, which was a little cold for December, but a nice trip with great company. – via google
