Amazing Experience!!!
The bioluminescent bay tour is the #1 thing I wanted to do in Puerto Rico but due to some poor planning on my part (and misreading the calendar) I thought Id reserved a trip but had reserved for a week from now
. No spots were available. So, after hiking the rainforest we decided to show up where the tours depart from to see if any companies might have openings. Puerto Rico Eco Tours did! (Another put me on the wait list and called me after we signed up for this one so if you make my same mistake, try showing up!). We got the last four spots in the 6:15 tour and it was great! It was light when we set out so we were able to see the mangroves as we paddled to the bay. Once in the bay we had about 15-20 minutes before the guides gathered us together to share some education. There were 30 in our group but the size was fine. The new moon had started 2-3 days ago so it was a sliver and quite dark, however the lights from surrounding buildings on the hilltops created quite a bit of light pollution. You could still see the bioluminescence though, and after the guides had us cover ourselves with tarps you could really see it! We were able to play with the water and it was a quite magical experience! People who had negative comments must have been out during a much fuller moon when I read it is harder to see. For us, it was fantastic and once of the most magical experiences of my life! The journey back was very dark but fun too. Our guides were knowledgeable and took care of us, and made the trip fun. I was thankful to find four last minute spots for my family and think I lucked out getting to go with this crew. Thanks for the great trip!!! – via
