5.0/ 5

We booked the “Bioluminescent Bay with Transportation from San Juan” tour through Viator. A van picked us up at one of two pickup spots in San Juan. Our driver was very chill, and very smooth behind the wheel. It was about 1.5-2 hrs to drive there and an hour back. The van had AC which was nice.

The tour itself was lovely. Our guides Miche and Emily did such a fabulous job! We kayaked through a gorgeous little meandering Mangrove forest, got to see an iguana, and then had some time to explore the bay once we arrived.

In the bay, Emily and Miche did a spectacular job of gathering everyone up again. Emily then explained the ecology of the mangrove forest and a bit about the “critters” we were there to see. Very entertaining and funny and informative.

The guides then used tarps to allow everyone to see the plankton – which were so glittery and bright under the tarp! Truly spectacular! Quite a magical experience.

Miche did an excellent job of swooping in when folks had trouble kayaking (a few of us hit trees) and see was able to help those who needed it but also keep the line moving.

There were then chips and bottles of water waiting for us at the end. Make sure to bring some cash for tips for the guides and the driver at the end

10/10 would recommend to anyone – via google

Bio Bay Night Kayaking Tour was good. All guides were very organized and professional. We liked kayaking in mangrove forest – it was very cool experience.
Minus one star because bioluminescent intensity was not like on photos – water just sparkle a little bit when you look at it under the tarpaulin for darkness, nothing blue or sparkle around the boat. I understand that it depends on weather conditions and moon phase, but it would be good to warn about it before booking. – via google

If I could rate Peniel access tours 100/10 I would. Not only were they great on our bio bay tour with our young kids, but I dropped my license after we returned from our tour. The guides found it the next afternoon but by that point I was in San Juan. Wouldn’t you know, they had a tour group in the SJ area and hand delivered my drivers license to me at my hotel tonight. Grateful does not begin to describe how I feel. They put on a really great bioluminescent tour (our tour was led by Emily and crew on 2/29 at 7:30 pm) and just went way above and beyond anything I could have ever dreamed. We hope to return to PR and I will be booking tours with this group again. – via google

The bioluminescent kayak tour was magical! Gliding through the dark waters under the mangroves, the tiny organisms lit up, creating an incredible show. The guides were informative and passionate. A must-do for anyone seeking a unique excursion! – via google

Excellent tour. Great communication. Felt safe at all times and the guides were very informative about bioluminescence. One thing I like is that this company’s tour leaves 30 minutes before most others in the bay. Which means you have a bit more time on your own at the bay and an easier way in. Though it also meant a bit more traffic on the channel on the way back.
A few people in my group were less experienced and were having trouble rowing in teams and they offered to help with towing these people. Overall, an amazing experience. – via google

5.0/ 5

Go as close as possible to a new moon and preferable pick the later tour since it usually doesn’t get completely dark until 6-7 PM. All tour companies operate out of the same compound and they all have similar setups. Peniel access tours were fine with the tour guide explaining some facts about the biolumiscent cyanobacteria. They did not use a tarp to see the biolumiscence probably due to good visibility during my visit. Would recommend. – via google

3.0/ 5

The staffs are nice, the kayaking experience was great however once you started kayaking you might bump into different kayaking boats and there are also other tourists doing it, so you can totally bump each other.

It was very dark, I suggest to have a partner doing it, it’s so tiring and scary if you’re afraid of the dark. Some branches are so low and it might hit your face or body anytime.

Bioluminescence isn’t visible, you can see very little and you need to cover yourself with a tarp provided by them.

I suggest to do a research first when is the best time to do it. – via google

Went for the 5:30pm bio kayak tour. Plenty of parking and restroom without soap…. It’s a two people kayak boat. Instructors are friendly and helpful. You can leave your personal items like phones with the tour operator. Don’t bring phone because flashing is not permitted. Your waist down will be wet due to the paddling. Don’t wear shoes because they will be filled with sands before you get onto the kayak boat. On the way there, it’s fun and you get to see and enjoy the nature. Don’t expect to see much glows as you would find on the internet. On the way back, it was dark and you could only see the tiny light from guide. So strongly suggest booking a tour on 5:30 to fully enjoy the natural. – via google

5.0/ 5

Booked their 7:30 pm night kayaking with my 7 year old and it was an enjoyable experience. The bioluminescence itself was OKAY and not as bright as some of the online photos indicate., But the experience of kayaking in almost zero visibility due to darkness was well managed with glow sticks and clear communication.

My daughter got her own glow stick probably due to her age, and I appreciated knowing they were trained and cautious with handling younger kids on the late tour. I highly recommend Peniel. – via google

We were first time kayakers and messed up. They were kind enuf to tow us and help. Appreciate it – via google
