We were really looking forward to this experience since we heard so much about it and the once in a lifetime opportunity. It was recommended we stay the night which we did on Vieques. Sadly we booked when the moon decided to show up. So with that we didn’t get the real full experience for what we were expecting. A real bummer. Melayas tours is not responsible for the moon schedule however our tour guide was terrific and full of energy and pleasant and knew the area and history of the island very well and was a pleasure! But we wished that the service didn’t allow you to book the tour knowing the experience wouldn’t live up to the hype when the moon is full or out.
So with that we will plan accordingly next time we come to PR. My recommendation is to know the moon schedule before you book so as to get the real experience.

Roderick loves his job, I could tell right away! He was full of information, friendly, and ensured our safety the entire time! The moon cover was so helpful in assisting us with seeing the best bioluminescent glow!! It was hard to get photos, but its the memories that count!

Definitely a must-do while in Vieques. Our guide Peachy was great – informative and very funny. The bioluminescence was incredible to see as our kayak paddles cut through the water, as well as through the clear bottom on the boat. He also used a laser to point out and teach us about the stars above. Overall, a very cool experience. – via

The bioluminescence is beautiful and definitely worth seeing but Id probably try a different tour company. Our experience was very rushed from the beginning as it was the last one for the evening and we overheard our guide say he was just trying to go home for the night. We were told wed be on the water for an hour but it was only 30 minutes so I feel cheated out of my money as this wasnt a cheap excursion. We did a tour with Salty Spirit earlier in the day for snorkeling and I wish we would have done the bio tour with them as they were fantastic. – via

Bio bay tour in may.
It was cloudy but the sky was still full of stars ?? Bioluminescence was visible in 30% but it was still amazing. I recommend clear bottom kayaks! It looks amazing! The guide was nice and funny, it was hard for me to umderatand him though, since he is not native speaker and had specific accent. With help of my native kayak partner i got to know some facts about the bay ??
There was no light on the bay, it was quiet, no crowd- like i heard it is on different bay in puerto.

Kayaking lasts 1 hour but time passes by sooo quickly, stop trying to take pics then and enjoy!! – via

Booked this tour last minute the day before and got a 7pm spot in April. It was plenty dark enough to see the glowing bay and the fish added more glow when they darted under water! It was a half moon and still a bit bright but with the clouds it made the bay brighten up. Pichi was our tour guide and was hilariously great! He knew so much about the bay, the stars/constellations, the mangroves, and all around made the entire tour a fun time. As other reviewers state, you do walk through some muck to get into the bay/kayak and cant take your shoes. They clean your feet off before leaving though so you dont have to worry too much about dirty feet. – via
