We went on the ATM Cave Tour which was pretty incredible. Our guide was Juan Carlos, he was really knowledgeable and you could tell that he was passionate about sharing what he knew with his guests. This is truly a unique experience that you can’t do anywhere else.
My only gripe is that the lunch they served us was awful: lukewarm rice & beans with lukewarm bbq chicken, neither one had much flavor. This tour costs $125 per person, when we met at our tour there were at least 3 guides that were taking out up to 20 people, that’s around $2500 bucks! I imagine they could have used a few of those dollars to offer us a better meal.
Another thing to keep in mind is that there are NO CAMERAS. If they catch you with a camera in the cave you will be kicked off the tour. This is fine, its important to respect the sensitivity and importance of the relics and grave sites below ground, but it would have been nice if they offered a picture option, where someone could follow your group to the very first parts of the cave to get some shots so you could have some memories. The first hour or so is spent getting to the area where you would see all the relics so up until then, I see no harm in some photos, plus, it would be an extra source of income and great advertising for the tour. To compensate the lack of photos they sent us some shots from 2013 of random people on the tour. – via
