The booking online was easy. The young man did give us the option of paying the balance of $180.00 for just the jet ski rental (which did not include the $60.00 we had already put on our credit card to hold the rental) on our credit card or to pay cash. We thought we had to pay cash, but only after my husband opted to put the balance on our credit card, the gentleman informed us we would be charged an additional fee.
He did not have the jet skis ready as we would have expected since we had reserved a time slot. He seemed to have “issues or problems” in getting the jet skis started, but we did not question his abilities.
Not long after we began our time in Indian Lake, a red light began flashing and the one jet ski would not go. As a result, my husband had to stop and help only getting enormous amounts of seaweed in his jet ski.
As my daughter was losing valuable time coasting back to the rental facility and smelling horrible oil and gasoline fumes, my husband and other daughter were spending their rental time in the water in the water digging out seaweed stuck in the jet ski!
The worker did switch out the jet ski and give us a little more time, but at this point we were nauseous from all the fumes (they were so bad) but we wanted to make the best of it.
We took the other jet ski out and it must have already had sea weed in it because the light on it began blinking right away. Again, my husband had to jump in and dig out the seaweed. When he had to jump off his to clean out mine, his clogged from sitting idle and then he had to do the same for his!
We decided not to use the extra few minutes they allotted us and headed back earlier than our previous rental time.
When we returned, it was much to our surprise that we were asked to pay for gasoline! What??? Yes, there is a gasoline charge and we understand that they are trying to run a business, but we also know that customer service is important.
Clearly, the customers could not use the product or service and were still be charged full price. The customers were not pleased because the service and quality of the product was not up to par and yet the customers we charged $240 plus an additional $20.00 for gasoline and an additional 5% for the use of their credit card and did not get to take advantage of the full time of the jet ski rental (in fact they only used the jet skis for maybe half the time) and the customers had to clean the equipment, store them for the employees, and they left with headaches and nauseated!
I tried discussing my concerns with the owner and he did not care! He stated, “I have you a few more minutes since the boy messed up your gas, but you didn’t use it!” He also said, “I usually charge “$40 for gas and I gave you a discount of $20!” He went in to say, “You did bring back my equipment with seaweed…” As if there was any way to avoid it. There was not!! If his worker knew what he was doing and knew how to put gas/oil in a jet ski we would not have stopped and the whole issue could have been avoided!
Clearly, Lakeside Jet Ski Rental has a good gig going because there isn’t much competition! But, if y’all are thinking of renting jet skis…
You may want to do some research or at least read the fine print! – via
