UPDATE: They replied and said they have in my notes I couldn’t catch my breath. I couldn’t Cathcart my breath because my panic at having the same instructor that left me to drown in the waves. I did not Complete my ocean dive. I left half way through. I think the instructor was DJ (the guy who replied).
I wasted so much money. The ladies are great! But whatever dude that was my ocean instructor was some lug head, thoughtless, careless guy. He never established buddies in the boat dive, he let me almost drown in the waves as he left me behind, completely leaving me behind as he and the others swam away. While we were 60ft under, he was entirely distracted by some octopus while I got swept up by a current all the way up to the surface. It cost me my hearing in one ear. Now all i hear is ringing. He is absolutely reckless. I don’t even remember his name. I tried doing the boat dive thinking I could escape him but no, there he was again so I refused to drive with him, knowing I’d probably die if I did. Another $150 down the drain. He’s skinny and tall with tattoos. That’s what I remember. $1000 down the drain over injuries caused by a reckless, careless instructor that didn’t practice any safety what so ever. I’ll never dive again because of him or this place for employing a reckless and careless guy like him. If you get an instructor that’s a tall skinny guy with tattoos, do yourself a favor a request Purple or Mini (the ladies) or risk permanent injury. – via

Had such a blast jet skiing in the pacific ocean! The staff was very friendly especially the guy with the curly hair(very handsome). Jet ski’s were the latest models. We look forward to coming back! – via

Got certified with this shop and do not recommend. Initially thought it was ok and was just annoyed by all the hidden fees attached to my Groupon. But after recently diving with a much better shop and talking to more experienced divers, I realized that Beach Cities Scuba was just not good. I did my open water dives at Laguna
First there were too many people to one instructor. Both days it was 5/6 to 1. When one student had an issue, we all were just stuck waiting. Spent 90% of my dive on my knees in the dark, SoCal has no visibility, waiting for my instructor to come back.
Told not to bring stuff to beach because no one there to watch stuff. And dive shop didn’t provide anything either. Which means we had zero food or water during our surface intervals between shore entries. No water!!! And finally when done you have to carry all your equipment up the hill. I was exhausted and frankly a little woozy while the shop guy lectured me that I put BCD on wrong hanger when cleaning all my gear. And we were hurried along so they go start next class.
My instructor was nice and think did a good job with so many students but it was just a bad situation.
Felt like a scuba assembly line, like they were just trying to get every penny out of me and didn’t really care about the dive experience.
Maybe those who did boat dives had a better time but after all the hidden fees attached to Groupon, I couldn’t justify forking over another $140 for boat. – via

I went there thinking I was just going to buy a few snorkel/fin sets generically made but instead they discussed my options and fitted me and my kids with masks!!! Then fins. I was very surprised by the quality of customer service. Also, it’s a small specialty shop so they can do this. Their pricing was very competitive. I was able to find everything I needed for my kids and myself for our Hawaii trip at a cost that was almost like renting for 1 day. Also got snorkel vests that pack small and light. – via

I recently completed my dive certification training with Beach Cities Scuba and cannot say enough nice things about how much they worked with me on my schedule and were extremely friendly through the whole process. Everyone was very helpful and more interested in setting you up for success than anything else. Highly recommend! Special shout-out to Chob, who really went above and beyond for me! – via

Chob is really fantastic. I had a tight deadline and Chob was able to get me in, trained, and out over a long weekend. I feel very prepared to dive and attribute that to Beach Cities Scuba and Chob! Overall, such a great school. – via
