Me and my 13yo son dove with Kona Honu Monday 3/18/24. Two tank boat dive. The experience was excellent. The boat was very nice and well equipped, the crew was very good, and both dives were great. It’s obvious they are a well run operation, and we had absolutely zero complaints. Dove at Air Station and Wash Rock and both were great dives. Highly recommend Kona Honu… – via

Lovely team and dives with Kevin , John and Holga ! We’ve seen some eals , beautiful frog fish , leaf fish and the highlight for us was a tiger shark ! Boat was big and comfortable , with a toilet , plenty of snack between dives . Guys were very kind and helpful . Many thanks! – via

Had a great time out with Max, Sarah, and John. I was interested in finding some endemic species of sea life and we were successful in doing that. Was super cool to find a phased longbill butterfly fish and many others. Highly recommend this crew and boat. Top notch all the way. – via

Completed my Open Water Certification with Kona Honu Divers and it was the best experience! My instructor, Max, was so knowledgeable, both in and out of the water. He was extremely attentive and encouraging and I couldn’t recommend him as an instructor enough! Went out with Captain Kimo, Andy and Mathew for a two tank morning dive. Super friendly crew that took great care of us. They explained the rules, dive plan, and sights thoroughly before we dove. It was a small group with space to move around the boat, which is more than you can ask for with a lot of dive outfitters. I highly recommend this shop. – via

Toby and Anna were our Open Water instructors and did an excellent job. Having a Master’s degree in special education and 15 years of teaching experience, the teaching style and androgogy were expert. Being a co-teacher for Language Arts, math, and science, the observed interactions and complimentary supports provided to us students by Anna and Toby were superb. Just the right amount of redirection and clarification with plenty of humor thrown in to keep it fun and engaging. I could go on with an in-depth analysis of their approach to getting our class certified, but that would be too droll for the general readers of this review, so I will conclude with this: you all are da ??!

Came here during a big swell. They were always helpful on the phone to reschedule us to a better dive day. When we arrived at the boat the captain (John) was pretty entertaining with all the rules and information before we got on board. We brought our own gear and one of my hoses stopped working well, he was even helpful to see if he could fix it. We dove with Milo’s group. He was chill and methodically explained what was to come. We came back for the Manta dive and had Kimo as our captain he was super sweet and helpful on how to stay warm in-between dives. The boat was one of the better boats with its hot water hose, luxurious deck padding, and ample space. Mo and Milo were the dive guides for this trip and they made it fun and enjoyable for everyone on the boat and in the water. During the Manta dive the “around the campfire” setup with all the lights combined with the acrobatics of the 7 mantas made for a surreal, theatrical performance. – via

From a Dive Professionals opinion, this company is top notch! From the booking over the phone, to a visit in the shop, and then the trip itself, everyone was super professional and checked all the boxes in providing a great experience! The Captain John welcomed me by name, was very kind and interactive, and provided a perfect safety briefing of both the boat and a precautions taken. Gary & MJ led both our dives, they were both attentive to details in everything from the dive briefing, throughout the dive itself, and when we got back on the boat. Gary even wrote out everything we saw on a notepad at the end with the names of the Manta-rays and all!

The Kona Honu crew is the best in town. We took a last minute Saturday morning 2 tank dive/charter. We saw dolphins, shark, turtle and more! Captain John was kind and attentive to the needs of our large party. One of our young divers had a mask blow out at 30-40ft and Mo led the diver safely to the surface to swap his mask out without incident. The entire boat crew were knowledgeable about the ocean and it’s marine life, they were friendly and professional. You could tell they all loved being a part of the crew and worked so well together.

The staff are awesome!! Sarah tried everything to make it a great dive for me!! Captain John was very personable always available to answer questions. We found a large group of dolphins and we hung out and watched the dolphins on the way back for several minutes I never felt like they were in hurry and everyone had a great way!! Definitely would recommend this company to dive with while on the Big Island!! I will see you again!! Thanks for everything!! – via

From the moment we walked in, Christain, was cherry and very helpful. We are amateur snorkelers who have had some fun in our sub optimal gear (it worked for our purpose until now), so with how much we snorkel, we decided to upgrade and saw this place on google with high ratings and reviews.
We can attest, Christain as wel as the rest of the staff from gear, to experiences, are incredibly knowledge. He was able to work through some of the issues we were having during our adventures and what to look for in new gear. Additionally, he wasn’t judgmental at all. This is a place where it felt very inviting into the space which can go along way for visitors considering we are visiting their home island. There was another gentleman helping another customer that was patient as he worked through the customers rental needs as well.
Overall, huge selection of googles to choose from and price ranges too. We ended up choosing a whole new kit for our set up instead of piece-mailing it together. So, new mask, snorkel and fins.
Very excited to get out and test our new gear.

What an amazing experience! We did the 2 tank manta trip. If you are trying to make a decision on which company/trip to go on, i’ll make it easy for you. Pick. This. One. I can’t say enough about the crew, professional, thoughtful, knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. Captain Kimo, Sarina and Milo went above and beyond! On top of that, the boat is spacious, clean, organized, and comfortable. There’s a hot fresh water wash down, and they provide snacks/sandwiches after the first dive, warm beverages after the night dive. First dive (daylight) acclimated us to the site and terrain. The bottom is full of life, we saw too many species to list and a few mantas. On the night dive, we encountered around 15 mantas and they put on quite the show for us. Put this on your bucket list and get on this boat. – via Google
