I was there on a Tuesday, quite well in the morning, I missed two little ones down the mountain but without further ado, I still have another one to go. There were no fountains along the walkway, the goats were very nice although they ate my wife’s sandwich, the yeti came out to greet us when night fell, it turns out to be the concierge of the houses at the top. Overall good experience. – via

I hear and see they have resumed their operations as of August, 2023 after what seemed about six months of no activity. Usually when activity like this stops for awhile it is because of problems, legal, safety, funding, insurance, etc.
My own experience of this place is of an observer and a person that lives in the area.
First, I cannot believe this airport is certified for this type of commercial operation. The landing strip itself is hardly paved. This little airport was once a private landing strip for Rancho Jamul. The city of San Diego acquired it and still own it when they bought Otay lake. For a long time it was and still is an aviation sports center for ultra light/experimental aircraft, a good use for it. I seriously dought that the fully loaded twin propeller aircraft that Skydive uses could abort a take off successfully in the event of an emergency, they would wind up in the lake if they made it that far. Probably more like hitting the trees at the end of the runway that exist between the end of the runway before the lake.
Take a little hike on the trail that exists just north of the Dulzura creek and the airport and watch their aircraft coming in for a landing, it looks like a roller coaster ride, the approach is so tight up against the hills, a real white knuckler. More for a combat mission than an aviation sport recreation event.
I believe Skydive has been in operation at this Otay lake location for about four years now. I have not heard of any kind of accident that has occurred there but they are operating on the edge.
