I just took the PADI Open Water Dive Class last weekend. It was a great experience. Our instructor, Dennis, has an obvious passion for scuba diving and instruction. He was patient and thoroughly answered all of our questions. I could tell he really enjoys doing this. Alex also helped out and provided great tips.

The first day in the pool was a bit of a learning experience. The second day I felt much more comfortable. It really made me look forward to my upcoming trip to the Caribbean, where I plan to do my open water certification 🙂

We had a small group (6). It was nice to meet and experience it with other future scuba enthusiasts. I would encourage people thinking about doing this to take the plunge (ha!). – via google

If you’re in the metro Detroit area and thinking about scuba diving, this is the place to go! My husband has been open water certified for over a decade, and it was finally time for me to join him. I signed up for the destination certification, which meant I took the online course and confined water dives with Huron, and completed my certification with four open water dives on a Caribbean vacation two weeks later. My husband also joined me for some of the sessions to complete a refresher course of his own (he highly recommends it for anyone who hasn’t been on a dive in some time).

I was so lucky to work with Brian (the owner) at Huron on my certification! Not only did he accomodate my schedule (he was able to schedule 4 private pool sessions with me within two weeks of me reaching out); most importantly when I struggled on some of the skills he was perfectly patient and supportive. You can also tell almost immediately that he truly loves scuba and wants to share that passion with everyone he can. He helped me select appropriate gear to get started, and was available to answer any questions. To be honest, I did not know what I was getting into – but when I worried I wasn’t going to be able to do it, he convinced me that I could and even sent me encouraging text messages in between sessions.

Two weeks later, I completed my certification in St. Maarten and was diving with stingrays, sea turtles, and reef sharks! I highly recommend Huron scuba and am looking forward to a whole new way to travel, thanks to Brian! – via google

Henry was so patient and helpful helping me arrange a private session for my 10 and 12 year old to experience scuba before signing up for actual certification classes. Dennis the instructor made the experience fun while keeping the kids engaged with learning. My kids cannot wait to take the certification classes but they insist only Dennis can be their instructor now! – via google

Excellent experience at Huron Scuba. As a newbie I was very intimidated but the whole team at Huron Scuba made me feel at ease and welcome. Henry was extremely helpful getting us signed up for the class and setting us up with the necessary gear. The class was very organized and well run. Dennis was an outstanding instructor, and Jeff was very helpful with additional tips and tricks. Everyone was easy going and jovial (no shortage of dad jokes??) while still focused on safety. From Henry fitting me for my gear, to Chris and the rest of the crew at the open water dives at Gilboa Quarry, i always felt super comfortable and safe. I just completed the PADI Open Water SCUBA Diver Weekend Executive Course. Absolutely Awesome!! Owner Brian went the extra mile researching how my 1977 NASDS Certification fit into the current PADI certification system. Trainers; Brian, Olag, and Dennis were very knowledgeable and worked hard reviewing ageless diving techniques with this old-timer, and more importantly, teaching skills not even in the 1977 play book (i.e., neutral buoyancy). By the end of the weekend, all students were comfortable with the skills necessary to be safe and keep minor “issues” from escalating to real problems. Well done. Kudos. – via google

My 16 year old used Huron Scuba to become open water certified. We LOVED our experience!!!
The staff is top notch! Very competent and patient dive instructors (we learned with Brian, Chris, Oleg, Bart, Jeff, And James).
The class information (PADI) was very informative and in-depth. Some important bits that are not required but super useful were leaned (like how to chase and reconnect your oxygen tank if it slips out of it’s straps!).
They really focus on safety and having my kid 30-60 feet under water without mom does make one a bit nervous and they recognize that and worked with me to keep her safe and me assured!
We do not have all the equipment for our kid to go scuba diving and it was a real help that all of the really expensive stuff is included in the class price!
We would 100% recommend them as a great learning dive school!
Also! They have a store where you can buy quality equipment or rent.
We are now saving to go back in the shop to start collecting the gear!
But in the mean time it’s really great to know we have a wonderful resource to use to rent!!
