I recently spent 10 days in Faial on holiday. Five of the days were spent scuba diving with the Halliotis dive center. We saw some really interesting habitats and wildlife including rays, eels, trigger fish, octopuses, baracudas, spider crabs etc.
We also dived through the wreck Portao 16 which was great!
Unfortunately, it was a bit early in the season to travel to Princess Alice Bank to see the mass movement of the Mobula rays, so this trip was not run in the time we were there. We also attempted a shark dive, but the conditions were not ideal and only 1 or 2 sharks were fleetingly present. This was beyond the control of the dive crew however as they did their best to coax the sharks out.
I completed my advanced open water diver course with Marcelo, who was a patient, friendly, and competent instructor. The rest of the crew and dive staff were also lovely.
I would happily go with Halliotis dive centre again. – via

It was a nice sunny day of beginning of May 2023. Everything was closed and you wonder if they are out of business or something because no information at all on when they will be opening. Shame. – via

Hice 3 buceos con “Haliotis Dive Center”, uno de ellos con tiburones. Totalmente recomendable, simpáticos, atentos y buena gente. Buceos seguros y de calidad. Creo que su numero no aparece en internet, si vais al sitio (igual está cerrado porque están bucenado), pone el número de teléfono en la puerta. Pregunté información en distintas escuelas de buceo y esta es la mejor sin duda, el resto están en el puerto y debe ser que están más masificados, ya que tienen precios desorbitados, hay que reservar con mucha antelación y la atención es regular. Si vuelvo a Faial sin duda trataré de ir con Haliotis nuevamente!! – via

Me and my boyfriend did our PADI Open Water course there and we could not imagine better diving school! Pedro and Ana are amazing instructors, during course I had few difficult moments but they always gave me enough time to get used to new situation, without pushing.
