Very professional dive operation. We didn’t stay on the Island, but we spent 2 days there diving and it was great! If your Advanced Open Water with +50 dives they will take you to Maratua Channel (or Big Fish Country as they call it). A thousand Barracuda call it home, truly an amazing world class dive sight, we also saw a hammerhead!
My wife and I got Lucky, we showed up in Maratua with no planning, found a homestay and we’re able to get a hold of Nabucco and book 5 dives with them, because they had room. FYI they have limited Internet and Phone access, because it is so remote it works only sometimes, but they are very good about doing all they can to get back to you. If you are not budget traveling I would stay with them, if your in a budget, but are wanting to plan a trip, you can pre-book a 10 dive package with them. I wouldn’t just show up like we did, because there is only one other dive operation we could find and they don’t get very good reviews and are on the other side of the Island where the diving might not be as good.
The other budget option for diving Maratua Channel is from Derawan, but there is only a 1 hour tide window each day to dive it, so I don’t know how the dive shops handle that since it is a long boat ride away.
I couldn’t recommend these guys enough, they are a little expensive for Indonesia standards, but thier service, gear, and dive sites are also way above typical Indonesia standards as well.
(I cut and pasted this from my trip advisor review. Note that as of May 2017 Google maps has this location wrong, it is not on Java, it is a privately owned resort island near Maratua Island off the east cost of Borneo, Indonesia. The closest city is Berau, Indonesia.) – via
