The boards are fun but the men you have to deal with aren’t. One older man who works there was man-handling my friends board well she was surfing on it without asking & made her incredible uncomfortable (we were not in a lesson). Overall, would not recommend this shop to any solo-female travellers. – via

First time surfing as a family. Our daughter had a great experience with her instructor, he was calm and very encouraging. My husband and I had loads of fun with Platano. We had great instruction, reminders to just breathe and wait for the wave and lots of laughter and celebration when we caught a wave or when we fell. We felt very well taken care of. – via

My girlfriend is a decent surfer, but her teaching style wasn’t the easiest to catch on to – so we stopped by el punto and got hooked up with Hugo (aka banana). Trust me when I say that even if for some crazy reason you don’t catch a wave (he will get you up) you will find the day rewarding and have a deeper appreciation for the ocean and the sport.

Hugo is one of the funniest and kindest humans I have ever met. And I highly recommend him if you need surf lessons! – via

These guys are unreal. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend renting here, taking lessons with Mike, getting the local rundown with C, and taking a surf trip with Filipe. – via
