Diver Dan’s was a good local shop but have basically gone downhill the past 3 years. I purchased two steel tanks and requested they be cleaned and prepped with 32% nitrox. When I picked it up, they were filled with air. I talked to the associate and Dan that these should be nitrox, they both refused to refill with nitrox. The associated smirked and said: guess your diving air.
Then further inspection I noticed they installed a standard burst disk on a high-pressure tank. Brought the tank back and they basically said “oops” with no apologies.
If they can’t get the fill correctly and can’t install the proper burst disk, why would I trust them with servicing regulators.
I just cannot recommend diver dans anymore. Was a good shop, but I guess things have changed. – via

My partner and I took the Open Water certification course (accelerated weekend version). We got lots of help selecting our gear and getting fitted. Our instructors and assistant instructors were phenomenal. They made sure we knew what we were doing and also made the experience a lot of fun! Now, be prepared for a physically TOUGH and LONG first weekend of pool dives. There are a lot of exercises you have to do, the class is large, and the pool is not the most fun place to be with all that heavy gear. Tough it out, it will get way better! and all that training in the pool is WORTH it when you get to do the ocean dives the second weekend. It was magical going 20ft under right next to the kelp on our first ocean dive and seeing the cutest little snails, giant starfish, little and big fish, sea anemones, diving birds, and so much more. We felt pretty safe after all that training. The instructors always made sure we understood any of our mistakes and made us repeat exercises if we needed it. I recommend Diver Dan’s for the courses or for buying gear. It’s a shop built around community made possible by people who are very passionate about safe fun scuba! – via

Julie L. is simply the best…. a lady who is both patient and knowledgeable. I know it’s a Scuba shop but there is also a large selection of snorkeling gear. She explained how the various air tubes worked and she was especially helpful when it came time to choose a mask. I wear glasses and I needed the lenses in my mask to be close to my eyeglass prescription. Julie and the other staff member were great in finding lenses that were appropriate for me. Thank you so much Julie L. – via

Cheapest I found. The class, instructor and rentals altogether cost around $700. The experience is not ideal, specially the pool. There were more than 10 students with 4 instructors in one medium pool. No room or extra time to absorb the lessons and try them for yourself. You’re always bumping into others or pool walls. The fact that they have everything under one roof is good and sometimes bad. Good because you have access to everything you need: class, rentals, pool, store, instructor. Bad because it becomes crowded and hard to move around sometimes with other customers also around you, waiting for your turn for rentals or changing rooms.
They told me maybe 5 times that it’s better to buy my personal gear then rent, even when I told them I decided to rent they kept saying don’t rent, it’s the bad choice. I’m still happy that I rented boots and fins.
Overall it was ok, I recommend Dan if you don’t want to pay more to other shops and you’re local to South Bay. – via

Knowledgable and friendly staff. My wife and I used Diver Dan’s to get our PADI Open Water Diver certification. The experience was fantastic. There are incredible instructors that partner with Diver Dan’s to do the classes, and Dan and his crew are incredibly helpful in getting you the gear you need. – via

It used to be a good place for dive stuff but I think they trying to close their business now. Hired some arrogant employees that talkes down to customers disrespectful.
They start ripping off customers on prices i.e. raised their price more than 100% on basic stuff against what they initial quoted.
Plus the selection is poor. Online prices/options MUCH better.
BOTTOM LINE– TIME TO FIND A NEW SHOP.

Context: We were an open water group of 8 spending a weekend at a pool and another weekend in Monterey over the second half of October 2022.
1 – When the staff underestimates the weighs you need, you can think it’s a small mistake, but when they underestimated 75% of our group (at least 6 persons could not sink), that’s bad service.
2 – When you have a leak in one of the regulators, it is something that can happen, but when it happens to 2 regulators and 2 tanks, this is clearly bad maintenance, which leads to the next one…
3 – One of our tanks had not been checked for over 12 months, as such, the shop we had brought it to in Monterey refused to refill it!
After explaining all of that to the staff of Diver’s Dan, we were told that we should have told them about those issues (which we did when we were in the area during their opening hours, but it was not always the case) so they could have helped resolve them.
Despite all of that and the fact that we bought our gear at their shop, they did not offer any kind of compensation.

I would recommend Diver Dan’s to anyone who is local or coming out of state! They are well known with good reputation and also well connected to scubadiving industry and manufacturers.
The owner and staff helped me to pick up right equipment and even during covid-19 supply chain issues they worked hard to get me a bcd I wanted. – via Google

I had a great experience with this first 5 star Padi center in Bay Area. My kid did the open water diver course over two past weekends. Dan suggested and fitted the basic equipment for my kid. We got the rest of gear free with the OWD course. Now I have my buddy after waiting 16 years. I recommend Dan’s great – better than internet (as he claims while allowing to fit the mask fins gloves boots haha) – prices. The classes with Matt Vandercook and two Steves were great! My kid had such a great experience. As I am planning on my Dive Master with them next year my kid wants now AOWD, too. – via Google

I still remember that I signed up for their boat diving in 2020, but they forgot to bring me tank, so I couldn’t dive. I came back to ask them for the boat refund fee. An older person didn’t want to give me the refund, so I finally called the credit card company and asked for my return! You should find a smart employee. – via

Bob and Kirk were great instructors for my PADI Open Water certification course. It was a terrific experience. After the classroom and in-pool instruction, I felt completely prepared when I did a referral dive in Hawaii. – via Google
