Go elsewhere on the island for a dive experience until they get their act together.
This dive school should come with a huge warning sign. Picked this place as it was close to the resort I was staying at – this would never make it to my list of dive school if I had done my due diligence beforehand.
Communications: Prior to sign up and during was one way, being talked to and over throughout the entire experience.
This is the observation of my travel companions and I in the days of diving with this school. The default preference of privilege at this place is you must be two of more these to feel like you’re getting your money and time worth : white, man, loud, woman (white) & helpless looking kind.
I signed up for a 3 days class and got team up with another solo diver. We were appointed a dive instructor that was new to the dive center. He was careless, talkative and inattentive. Throughout the course was spurs of constant sexist conversations about women body, sexual conquest, and how his English counterparts are much more superior than the colored / Asian countries.
Equipment: the equipments are in fair condition. On one of the dive days during equipment check, a few of the equipped tanks and octopus was not working. This was fixed quickly.
My dive buddy fulfilled the privilege checklist and was given priority to attention. There was more talking than they is to the actual practice. In one of the open dives, my dive buddy made a mistake underwater (about 8 meters down) so dangerous for a rookie that it would need intervention from a dive master BUT there was none and the dive instructor did not react quick enough to the situation. I sort it out myself underwater and waited out before coming back up to the surface. When we got back to the boat, there was no apologies or conversation about what went wrong, as if nothing had happened. There was also no follow up from the manager about the incident.
I had considered speaking with the Manager about the issue and then again, it would have been useless and exasperating. The comments left by others about this dive school remains true even with my recent experience. The local instructors are great and the foreign instructors will need more. Management is excessive, obnoxious and arrogant.
They need to figure out who this dive school wants to serve and how they operate their business. – via
