Between Capt. Earl Devaney and the Cadet officers I learned how to take orders and later in my cadet life how to give orders. I attained the rank of Master Sgt. at how and went on to Ohio U. after graduation. I did one semester at O.U., quit and enlisted in the Navy. After Boot Camp and Radar School I volunteered for UDT. While in training I was approached by a Lt. Commander from the Navy Beach Jumpers and he requested that I join them due to a qualification I had with ECM and he wanted me. I transferred to the Beach Jumpers and was involved in two Special Operations. After 6 years I got out of the Navy and became a police officer and my last 7 years on the job I was on the Governor’s Task Force on organized crime. I am married with 2 wonderful kids who have excelled and I also have grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Howe definitely played a part in all of my life especially Capt. Earl Devaney and one teacher I had at Howe who was Mr. Pagin. I learned how to take and give orders and how to work with others so as to make the outcome of the job come together smoothly. Thank you Howe and Capt. Devaney for what you taught me! – via

I used to come here in the Summers back when I was a kid I would come here to work in the corn fields.. while other kids had an awesome and exciting summer at Disney World or six flags.. Hey but some of us get to see the life of the bills never stop coming at a early age.. By the way everything I ate here was made with chicken a would get tired of everything having chicken.. One day they had burritos and I got so excited yes finally just beens and beef ?? it was the first time I was introduce to a chimichanga of chicken and cheese aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ?? I loved feeding the fish at the small fish pond.. And beat every one in basketball .. Awesome summers.. – via

I came to Howe back in the late 70’s. I was a troubled youth. Lost both of my parents by age 15. Howe taught me many things especially about life. Honor and respect stand out the most. In my senior year at Howe I got in trouble and had a Board of Review for dismal. Although there was no direct evidence of my misdeed, when asked I admitted to it. Howe taught me how to stand up be a man and take responsibly for my actions. It was perhaps the hardest lesson I learned. But it was the right decision. Looking back, I of course wanted to graduate from Howe. Although I don’t have the official Howe diploma I live my life as though I do. – via

As a member of the Howe Military Academy staff since 2007, I have been around for some of Howe’s worst times and some of Howe’s best times. For those reading the bad reviews on here, you must first know that anytime there is drastic change, which Howe was desperately in need of, there will be some push back from both staff and parents who have “settled in” to the status quo way of life. Over the last year, first with Col. Benson arriving in January 2018, and COL Tate taking over in July 2018, there have been MANY welcome changes that have been needed for many years to help restore Howe Military Academy as a prestigious Military Academy in the Midwest. Do major changes rarely ever occur without some type of major push back? No. That being said, the changes that have been made over the last year are starting to show their TRUE results. Our Varsity Boys Basketball team as a whole averaged above a 3.0 GPA academically this year and also currently holds a 10 win – 8 loss record (for those who were around the last few years, you know that Howe basically only won roughly only 1 basketball game in the last 2-3 seasons). This year, the administration listened to parental concerns about sports and went out and hired coaches for each sport that actually had experience in the sport, rather than forcing faculty and staff to pick a sport and coach it. As well, our CyberPatriot team just finished 78th out of 1,851 teams nationally in their division, and placed 1st in the State of Indiana. In the 9 years that Howe has been competing in the CyberPatriot competition, this is one of the best placements the team has achieved overall. As far as academic concerns go with some of the negative reviews, highly qualified teaching staff were hired recently to better serve the “rigorous” academics that we advertised. Student academics are now more aligned with actual college-prep material to prepare graduates for college. This was lacking in the past, but has drastically improved. Although it has lowered some GPAs recently, it is better preparing the students for what they will truly face in college, rather than easing them on by with a diploma only to get to college and feel completely lost. The academy has had 6 different Presidents since my arrival in 2007. I will not hesitate to say that the heart and passion that our current President has is second to none when it comes to the education, safety, and success of our students. – via
