The place was a hidden gem. Great staff and clean rooms. Waking up on a hill that over looks a bay…… priceless.

We went there primarily to dive, but visibility was pretty average with all the rain from the weeks prior. But this resort is so much than just a place to dive. – via google

Just spent two nights at this lovely little resort called Big Fin Divers Resort and had a great time. Most of the folks who stay there go for the diving however we just wanted a peaceful stay in a pretty setting. Our room was tastefully yet minimally decorated, with a mosquito net that kept the few pesky mosquitoes away from us. The bathrooms were attached…my favorite part…and hanging out on the hammocks on the front porch of our room we could quietly enjoy a view of Mt. Kinabalu or read a book. I did both. Also saw a beautiful sunset and had a little swim. Mostly pleasant…there was some seaweed that tickled my feet. Boo! We were provided three meals a day and the food was simple and delicious….if you would like to get away from the bustle of KK and enjoy beauty and tranquility, consider this little resort. – via google

A paradise for divers looking for a beach resort without a 5 star price tag. Simple clean and comfortable bungalows, great local food cooked by chef Awie and good selection of dive sites for both novice and experienced divers. No air-conditioning but surprisingly didn’t feel hot at all in the rooms at night. Balcony hammocks with ocean views were perfect for reading a book after diving too. – via google

(Translated by Google) A magical place! The decor is like a postcard, the atmosphere is super pleasant, it’s far from everything, it’s the perfect place to take a short break. The staff is great, the food is very good, the bungalows very comfortable. The diving staff is very professional. We recommend and it is clearly worth the detour!

2.0/ 5

Was so excited to spend my time at Bigfin. I am a non-diver so it was going to be a week of stand up paddle boarding, swimming and snorkelling. So you can imagine my disappointment when I arrived to find out the SUP was actually a surf ski. I had a go but it was not enjoyable as it was heavy and unstable to paddle.

As for snorkelling I requested a couple of times if I could go out on a boat (even had a couple of other guests wanted to come with me) but was pretty much ignored with both requests. I’ve stayed at many dive resorts before and they always cater for snorkelers (as not everyone’s partners or children will be divers). I know they have a pax limit but they took 4 other people for a non-snorkelling boat trip one day.

It kind of made me feel invisible and not sure whether it was because I’m a non-diver or a solo traveller but even one of the guests made a comment about it too.

There were good parts. Ella was very helpful when I had trouble making my payments (suggest if you need anything best to go through her). The accommodation is basic but very clean and sits on top of a hill with beautiful views.

I took a kayak out over to the island and there was some nice snorkelling.

The meals are basic but tasty especially when we had lots of veggies and the pancakes are delicious.

I spent a lot of time swimming and it’s really nice spot to float in the water.

Please read the Important information before you go due to power restrictions (which is the same at other resorts) and take snacks or your favourite tipple. They did have some snacks nearer the end of my stay.

The staff were friendly and Awie and Jel (not sure if I got the spelling right) were stand outs.

When I found out other dive resorts have proper SUPs I really wish I knew Bigfins were surf skis as I would have chosen one of the other resorts to stay at as this was my main reason for going. – via google
