Dived in Belize back on March 15, 2023. Had a newer instructor. First dive was good, on the second dive we ran into problems with my equipment running a leak upon descending. Instead of keeping our group together the instructor told the other 3 people to stay at the bottom until we came back. The instructor was rushing swapping out my equipment, when I questioned why my pressure tank wasn’t full he realized he didn’t open my tank the whole way. We descended and couldn’t find the other 3 people in my group. The instructor was panicked and angry that he had lost the group. We swam around for a while trying to find them. We had to ascend to the surface. The boat captain came to us and reminded the instructor that they were still exactly where we had left them. We swam for 5 minutes before having to end the dive.
Didn’t get any compensation (I understand we still went out and got 2 dives) but it was a waste of money.
I understand that this experience wasn’t on the dive shop but more on the individual instructor. I hope he got more training on how to lead divers/ what to do when issues arise. Usually dive masters are calm and this individual wasn’t.
Left feeling upset and a little traumatized. Hope nobody else has a similar experience! – via
