Ayolah is an awesome place to stay if you want to come to visit or surf Medewi. Ali and his family are so sweet and welcoming, and all-around great hosts. I took a surf lesson with Ali, and it was my best lesson in Bali (I’ve done quite a few): Ali is an incredibly talented surfer and just as good of a teacher. I always felt safe in the water with him and that he had a keen eye on how to help me progress as a surfer from wave to wave.
The accommodations are perfectly appropriate for the price point, and they are comfortable and clean. (The handmade bathrooms are a nice touch, also). Stay tuned, though, as Ali continues to expand and is building some more deluxe bungalows and new common areas. The vibes in the area and view over the fields to the water are superb. The location is not right at the Point, but it is only a few minutes by scooter, and there is a lot to be said for where it is. There’s a lovely cafe/surf shop right next door, as well as a few other surf-related accommodations, and just down the hill is the huge & beautiful non-Point beach, which is lovely and has a lot going on.
