Had a fantastic couple weeks diving here in January/February 2024. Superb diving, in the muck, so much to see.
We were underwhelmed by Apo Island, if you think about diving in the context of Sipidan in Malaysia or Verde Island at Puerto Gallera – disappointing at Apo. We skipped our second trip to Apo to stay in the muck.
Staff and service at Atlantis was generally impeccable slightly lower than that at Puerta Gallera which was astoundingly good.
Recommend Alf for a dive guide if you can possibly have him. He was great at spotting things.
Here was just one night dive:
Three broadclub cuttlefish mating, one male blocking another males attempts to get involved. Amazing displays of colors.
Two broadclub cuttlefish mating.
Largest needle fish I’ve ever seen, probably 5 foot long.
Baby needlefish probably 3 inches.
Hairy frog fish walking and throwing his lure. Probably walked 18 inches in 5 minutes.
Squid at the beginning and end.
Flat worm dancing in the water column.
Decorator crab
Skeleton shrimp
Painted frog fish holding stoically still.
Eel
Orangutan crab eating voraciously
Three turtles

(Note: Please look elsewhere for a review on the Atlantis Dumaguete Resort accommodations and diving—this is only a review of the resort’s vegan fare.)
As a whole, the Republic of the Philippines is not a particularly vegan-friendly destination, which was a hard-to-swallow reality for three “vegan” (i.e., no animal- or seafood-derived products) divers on a 14-day, all-inclusive, two location dive trip. Because of this forecasted potential conflict, we made it no secret to Atlantis we were coming. Even so, the first week was a difficult dietary challenge at Atlantis Puerto Galera, and we were apprehensive about our second week at Atlantis Dumaguete.
It was there we met head chef, Varry. This guy enjoys his craft, and it shows. He had a firm understanding of our dietary restrictions and lived up to the challenge. His dishes were so creative and delicious, they were on par with some upper-tier American all-vegan restaurants. For the week, every starter (soup, salad, etc.), main course, and dessert were unique. He took great pride in his work and came tableside to explain each meal offering.
I am posting a few pictures of various meals we had, but cannot recall the names of each dish; suffice it to say that Varry made this dining experience at Atlantis Dumaguete a special one that we will not soon forget. Oh, and the traditional meals got rave reviews from our meat-eating counterparts. – via

We spent 10 days at this Atlantis Resort in Dauin. We had an ocean view room and we loved the sound of the waves at night. Albert and the entire dining room staff made every meal enjoyable.
We dove daily. Our divemaster, Wing, put us at ease early on and showed us so many amazing creatures. All the dive center staff work very hard and gave us fantastic service. We dove nitrox and the process for analyzing your tanks was quick and easy.
The day trip to Apo Island is a must. Great reefs, beautiful turtles. The boat staff provided wonderful snacks and a delicious lunch. A few ladies came by on their small canoes with bags of tee shirts and pareos for sale.
The front desk staff were excellent. Their liveaboard, the Azores, came into the resort. We asked for a tour which they graciously provided even though they were busy getting ready for the next group of guests.
We also needed help procuring a prescription refill and they bent over backwards to help with this.
This was our first time to the Philippines and Atlantis made it very memorable. – via

This is our second stay at the Dumaguete Atlantis resort and it certainly won’t be our last. We love the staff here, so friendly, inviting, and helpful. The pool is great for a swim after a day of beautiful diving. The resort itself feels like a paradise oasis separate from anything else. The restaurant is accomodating to my diet too, with every meal being different and delicious.
The dive shop is expertly run so you feel safe and confident in the water.
10/10 recommend to anyone looking for a fun, lovely place to stay. – via

Amazing service and staff at the beautiful Atlantis Dumaguete! Within five minutes of being at the resort, everyone (even if they hadn’t met us) would greet us by our first names. The food was wonderful…abundant portions and variety of dishes to choose from.
Be sure to go to the spa often…Gail gives the most amazing massages!!! Shout out to Aleta, Rea, Harnold, and Gail. They went above and beyond, thank you thank you! – via
