5.0/ 5

I signed up for scuba class in July however, due to some health issues I had to push back when I was going to take it. The shop was understanding and gave me no issues about changing my scuba class date.

In October I went to class. I only had a few other people in my class who were awesome classmates by the way. My instructor was Eliza. There was a few different skills that I did, these particular skills made me very nervous. Eliza was able to sense this and did not push but waited till I was comfortable to have me try again. I left class feeling accomplished, and satisfied about what I had done.

I feel extra obligated to write this five star review as left my dive sheet at home before my scuba trip to the Caribbean. I emailed the dive shop and almost immediately he emailed me back my dive sheet, so I was able to dive on my trip.

Please don’t be afraid and give Scuba a try at Scuba Adventures. – via google

Went to this shop years ago to get initial certification. They offered pool verification along with a package that included a mask and fins. Did the certification and took home the gear that we were fitted with, then got a call saying we had “taken” premium gear and our credit cards would be charged or we would need to return it immediately. Even though we brought back the gear, the shop owner treated us as if we had done something wrong by somehow selecting premium gear (as scuba newbies) outside of what was offered (when the worker in the shop had helped us find the gear we wound up taking home). No thank yous for returning the gear, no apologies for the inconvenience. When somebody is unkind and treats you poorly, you never forget it. – via google

1.0/ 5

I’m sadden to write this account as I wanted to like this place, but my experience was 100% avoidable. I went through the certification process elsewhere despite trauma I had to undo from Adventure Scuba. I tried twice to go to Adventure Scuba–big mistake. I arrived excited and ready, but left with an intense anxiety of scuba diving because of the comments the instructors made combined with their lack of support.

The instructors boast having years of instructing experience, but had zero helpful advice while I had difficulty breathing except: “collect yourself” “what’s going on with you?”, “you need to relax and pretend your in the spa”, all of which was monumentally unhelpful to hear as my body quickly spiraled to a panic. The worst was the female instructor. Hyper condescending. She was visibly irritated by my anxiety (I was astonished that my trouble breathing was a nuisance to both of instructors). The unfortunate part is that when I first conveyed I was having difficulty breathing, I didn’t feel ANY fear initially, I simply tried to explain I was experiencing trouble breathing, and to ask questions, but I was quickly dismissed and told to “make up my mind if this is something I want to do” (verbatium). These comments quickly fueled a feeling of intense panic when I received NO answers to my questions and reattempted to submerge myself only for the cycle to repeat and lead several times to the same outcome of not being able to breath well. Repeating this several times rendered me freaked out, confused, and exasperated. I don’t remember her name (but to be fair she kept calling me the wrong name which also contributed to my confusion). The male instructor accused me of not listening to him (although I proceeded to repeat everything he had just said, so no idea why he made that assumption).

The bright side is, I have since been to two different dive sites (one to complete certification the other just to dive for fun) and they both were vastly different experiences from Adventure Scuba. Surprisingly, there was no insults or condescending statements, no visible impatience, no accusations. Only support, encouragement, and understanding which is not a lot to ask. I learned that it wasn’t in my head or something wrong with me, but breathing (unlike i was told at Adventure Scuba) does feel different under water and shouldn’t be rushed. Now that’s good instruction!

The absolute worse part was I probably was in the pool both times for five minutes each and they happily kept the money despite lack of instruction. ASTONISHINGLY wrong. So I write this review and also let fellow divers know: please avoid this place.

Ultimately, I’m glad I didn’t give up despite this truly unpleasant experiences of my life. I would say its an ok place if you’ve already been diving a few times before, but definitely not if you expect to be supported, not rushed, and respected when you voice you can’t breath or want to ask questions. I would definitely caution against spending hundreds of your dollars for that kind of treatment trust me other places are able to train without that nonsense. My sister did it with me she completed with Adventure Scuba, but fully agreed that the experience was lacking due to the treatment and how rushed the class felt. My feedback would be if someone isn’t relaxed– don’t fuel the apprehension, it’s NOT helpful. – via google

Adventure Scuba is a great resource for scuba (naturally), snorkeling and swim gear generally. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I took a class (offered at Asphalt Green across the street) and had a wonderful one-on-one snorkel session. A terrific local resources and the type of store that makes NYC a great place. – via google

Fantastic dive shop to get any scuba gear you may need and to get your initial PADI scuba certification with the 2-day indoor pool training they do across the street at Asphalt Green. Tom was our scuba instructor and he did a fantastic job showing our class of 3 the necessary skills we needed to learn during the 2-day indoor training. Seth at the dive shop also did a fantastic job helping me pick the right gear I needed to begin my journey as a scuba diver especially when it came to wetsuit size selection. I was deciding between a size Medium suit versus a size Large suit and he stressed I get the Medium suit even though it was more snug and a little less comfortable than the Large suit. I’m sure glad I listened to his advice because being in the water long enough can make you cold and during the training I realized how much warmer I was in the more snug Medium wetsuit. So now that my indoor training is complete it’s now time for to go out and get my Open Water training completed. Wish me luck and once again thank you Tom and Seth of Adventure Scuba. – Nolan – via google

I did my pool dives here to get my initial recreational diving certification and had a great experience – I was the only one in the class so got private lessons! The pool is just across the street in Asphalt Green. They were very thorough and also patient when I had trouble with some skills. – via google

5.0/ 5

I wanted to say how grateful i was for all the help received by the owner and this company. He made himself available for our Boy scout troop and stayed super late to make sure all the boys had everything down and comfortable during our pool session. He also went above and beyond for me personally because i wasn’t grasping the lessons as quickly and slowing everyone down, so he had me come in separately during the week to make sure I was comfortable so I could catch up and go on to get open water certified with my son and the rest of the troop. I very much would recommend these guys to anyone! – via google

5.0/ 5

I finished my open water scuba certification yesterday, Sunday May 23rd. I always have wanted to learn to dive with gear after many years experience snorkeling. Let me tell you, the people at Adventure Sports and the dive instructors exceeded my expectations. Should have done this sooner.

Too many times I feel people talk about their hobby as a “way of life”, and it sounds cliché. It actually fits here. For anyone to tell you otherwise about Adventure Sports and their passion for their trade and their students, it would miss the mark. They have a genuine interest in your experience, your enjoyment and above all, your safety.

My personal thanks to Steven and Manny for their help in my scuba certification! – via google
