4.0/ 5

We had an absolute blast with Omar and his team! We did the discovery scuba dive for 5 people for a bachelor party. From his short training session and testing on the dive, we felt confident in our skill set and several of us even booked the next day boat dive with Omar as well. It was honestly one of the best dive experiences I could have asked for, and we all had a ton of fun on the dive and all felt very safe! We would definitely choose this dive shop in the future if we ever visit Cozumel again. 🙂

I am deducting one star though because of the people Dive Paradise contracts out for photographs; I’ll explain. On the first and second day of diving, there was a photographer (Which we did not request or know about ahead of time) that followed us and photographed us so we could later buy the photos. When the time came to purchase, the only option the photographer gave us was the entire video slide show for $250 (not even the photos). It was a short video with all of our photos in a slide show, but at least like 1/3 of the photos were of fish or other wildlife, which we didn’t really want. The photographer gave us no options to purchase any individual photos and instead left us on read several times without any response. This is no way to do business, and they are trying to scalp tourists and others with their cost and quality (Not top quality photos). It’s not right to leave customers on read without a response, even if the response is a no. I am still waiting for a response and have received none. – via google

3.0/ 5

While it’s very busy and crowded in the mornings, the dive operator itself was a decent experience and much better than the awful resort they are attached to. Good communication, management of expectations (they cancelled one of our dives because there weren’t enough people for the “fast boat” but made us aware of this possibility in advance, agreeing to refund us when it happened – though did try to blame the cancellation on us briefly to avoid refunding, quickly remedied so no harm done) and a positive service (various snacks and water on boat, they help you with gear). Only negative in the dives was one of our nitrox tanks was on the boat half empty and they couldn’t replace it, though again no harm done as my wife was okay to use it on the second, shallower dive as she rarely empties her tank anyway.

We thought the dive masters knew their stuff and were eco-conscious in their briefings. We saw some very nice dive sites and a lot of big lobsters, turtles and rays including some huge eagle rays!

Cozumel is an excellent place for relaxing drift dives and challenging caverns and swim throughs, but I strongly recommend you don’t stay at the Wyndham Cozumel Resort just for this dive shop (I reviewed the hotel on its own page). Note that if you don’t stay at the resort, you have no locker or other storage for any gear you may want to leave between dives for this dive operator. – via google

Listen to the recent reviews and ignore the ones from the past. We talked to several customers that have used the shop for years when we went out with them and they have said that the quality has gone down tremendously since the passing of the previous owner.

Company told us that they would not charge us for the PADI digital coursework since we paid for it directly with PADI, and then told us that that wasn’t possible. Meaning they took an extra $230 from us for nothing.

Their dive gear is in very poor shape and low quality considering how much they charge for their packages.

They had the worst communication of any dive shop that I’ve ever worked with with regard to coordinating dives and trying to get information out of them about what we would do. There was a storm a couple of the days and they didn’t even bother to let us know that we were canceled for the morning and we had to drive out to the dive shop and talk to them in person, while somebody else that was staying at our hostel had lovely communication with their dive shop and they actually are the ones that told us that the park had been closed in the morning.

While we were on the boat, our instructor called my dive buddy a derogatory term in Spanish, too bad we understood.

The only shining star in any of this was the really lovely gentleman located behind the equipment counter who was friendly and helpful.

Update:
I’ve since talked to other divers here and they have had such better experiences for even less money. Such as full meals on board and even warm jackets for post dive. – via google

Literally throwing up all night due to food poisoning and asked if we could switch our paid for dives to the next day. They said absolutely not and no refunds. Wasn’t asking for a refund just a little compassion. This place has gone downhill and fast. Funny thing is we had company coming in and we’re going to dive for another four days with them. Will be using someone else for our business now. Just a shame the ethics at a place like this. Will definitely be sharing with my home shop that takes multiple trips a year here. – via google

Without a doubt…THE WORST DIVE OPERATION I have ever used. Disorganized, rude and unhelpful. Their customer service is pretty much nonexistent. If they were the last dive shop on earth…I would quit diving. – via google

NOT ANY MORE…. I have Been diving for years with these guys and today they stole $450 from me and my family…. My daughter certified with them October 2022, we returned and dove Dec31 to jan4 2023, and we came back down for Christmas… this trip we have been required to have a private DM because my daughter is 14 and can’t exceed the 60’ limit…. $85 extra …. Dove Christmas Day another $200 extra ….We dove 2 days and scheduled for today, last night I was hacking up a lung from whatever virus was making its rounds this year…. The shop closed last night and no way of getting a hold of anyone, my wife went to the shop first thing and they basically told her that we are SOL. We have 4 more days of diving but it won’t be with them….

When Apple was alive this never would have happened, her progeny are ruining a once great dive shop…. I’ve seen some trip advisor reviews with similar complaints… seems to be a trend…

I completely understand the added cost that the shop would incur for the unused dive master, (who probably did the dives with everyone on the boat) but keeping the money for the dives and just saying “well you missed the dive” is going to be an expensive mistake in the long run.

TONS OF DIVE SHOPS ON THIS ISLAND …. WE WILL BE SHIFTING OUR BUSINESS – via google

Honestly not sure what happened between 2022 reviews and 2023. The staff was great. The boat and equipment was so so. Snacks and drinks subpar. Our boat broke down on our way back and during the repair, it was apparent no maintenance was done on the motor (the radiator was BONE DRY). So, good guides, but crummy equipment. Skip them! – via google
