We went to Sugar Beach for the Friday BBQ on the beach. Incredibly disappointed considering it was $400 for 2 people (dinner, water, 2 cocktails, 2 beers). Firstly, it is not a BBQ on the beach. It is a wide ranging buffet with a few BBQ items with the restaurant located just off, and partly on, the beach. The range of food was impressive: pizza, salad bar, sushi, middle eastern, steak, chicken, Carribbean, a dessert bar and a few BBQ items. The quality however was not good enough to justify the $400. The food was ‘fine’ but we have had much better and for a lot less at other restaurants (Hotel Chocolat, Ladera and the Treetop restaurant to name a few). $400 for the quality was extortionate. I would not recommend to anyone that they go. We had very high hopes and feel very let down.
We didn’t stay at the hotel but we did explore a bit and walk through on the way back to the taxi rank. It was quite pretentious, gauche and excessive. Trumpian without the gold/marble. It lacked a personal touch and felt very ‘shouty’. Cost aside, it would not have been somewhere we’d have enjoyed being if staying there.
On the (only) positive side, those we met that worked there were lovely.
UPDATE: response by management below is awful. Zero recognition of feedback on the so-called ‘BBQ evening’. Inept and lazy response – in what world would we ever go back?! Clearly they don’t care. – via
Took a boat to Sugar Beach for some snorkelling, which was some of the best we’ve had on the island, and decided to eat/drink first.
Drinks and food ordered around 11:30, drinks prompt, but half hour later, no sign of food, waitress said she’d chase. She obviously did nothing about it as, an hour later, we asked again, “where’s our lunch?”… different waitress comes back and says our order was never put through!
So we left without lunch but were not offered the beer and coffee complimentary. One of the reasons we went there was to consider for next visit… didn’t take long to make our decision. – via
Wonderful stay and stunning views.
Right between the Gros Piton and the Petit Piton you can find this Viceroy resort right in the bay with a beautiful beach.
The sand must be imported from some other places though but it’s still very nice.
The location is just few km south of Soufrière, around 45 min from the Hewanorra International Airport in Vieux Fort. – via
I’m shocked no reviews mention that you cannot really walk around the resort, as it is on a very steep hill and there are no footpaths. You must take a shuttle bus to get around, which doesn’t seem very climate friendly. The beach was beautiful, the rooms were clean and the AC worked well. The food was ok, but it is priced like a Michelin star restaurant, which it is not. The wine was a bit disappointing and a 250ml beer is $9. A cocktail for $18. Our room keys did stop working at one stage, and there was also a power cut. The staff made some excuses for these problems but I was not entirely convinced by them. – via Google
It’s a hike down to it but well worth it for the snorking experience. – via Google
We did a lot of research on resorts to celebrate our 10th anniversary at and settled on Sugar Beach. We obviously had high expectations given the occasion and price. But, we were absolutely blown away with our experience. They went above and beyond to make a stay special. The butlers were amazing. Charles, Felicia and Swamed. The service was world class and complete luxury. Not to mention the location is stunning. All the staff were charming and welcoming. The food was amazing. Its complete paradise and so remote and peaceful. It has everything to offer, adventure in the jungle, water sports, if that is your thing, or just relaxation. – via Google
Fantastic, amazing, or dreamlike take your pick. My wife and I went here on our honeymoon and had the best time. The location and setting of the hotel is unreal with the food being a major highlight. The staff were extremely professional and courteous and I wanted to call out our butlers Traci and Ned and driver Fred for making sure we were taken care of and comfortable throughout our stay. Due to them and their colleagues we were able to enjoy our dream honeymoon and look forward to returning. Thanks Sugar Beach! – via Google
Edit: Their Angus burgers are so good! Was a great way to end beach day part two!
They also have these yummy rum and coconut drinks! It was a cool experience to drink out of a coconut.
They also have some locals that will sell you cute palm leaf decor! They will make it right in front of you.
I didn’t stay here, but my husband and I went for beach day! You can come here for free, rent the beach chairs for $75 per person USD. A little pricey but they are comfortable.
Staff was very nice and attentive and made sure you were okay and taken care of.
The views here are absolutely the bomb! You are nestled in between both Piton volcanos and if you are lucky you’ll even get to see beautiful yellow and black striped fish that will swim up to you.
Definitely coming back on Sunday to grab more pictures! – via Google
