Skydive The South is a skydive center in Alabama and a member of the United States Parachute Association (USPA).
This DZ is located at the Historic Moton Field, home of the Tuskegee Airmen. There is a museum on-site dedicated to these brave men. This DZ replaces the former Skydive Opelika and Skydive Tuskegee DZ. We are family oriented and want to bring back the old DZ feel. We will be offering Tandem, AFF, and IAD instructional methods. Come out and join us.

I’d been wanting to get into skydiving for many years, and I couldn’t have found a better place to start. I’m no stranger to sports and activities that pose a high risk of bodily injury or death, so believe me when I say that nearly as important as your well-considered decision to undertake a sport is your choice of where to receive your training. I’m glad that I chose Skydive The South to guide me on my first steps, or jumps, to becoming a skydiver!
Jumping from a plane for the first time can be a very scary prospect. You will need maximum attention and instruction, and minimum stress. The staff at Skydive The South are utmost professionals, knowledgeable and experienced, but most importantly, friendly and patient. It is obvious from your first introduction that they have your safety as a priority, followed by the patience required to provide thorough instruction to jumpers of various learning/experience levels and personalities. If you want to push yourself and progress quickly, they will keep up with your pace. I personally made 7 jumps in one weekend and JB Lovell, my instructor, was with me every step of the way. Daniel Edwards, the drop zone owner, even went over video footage with me after each jump to provide feedback.
It is obvious that Skydive The South is staffed by avid skydivers who love the sport and want to promote the sport and not only reach out to new jumpers, but also mentor jumpers to become licensed, lifelong skydivers. It is a USPA drop zone, and regulations and safety standards are strictly adhered to. You feel less like a customer and more like family.
As an active duty military member, I loved that the majority of the staff are current or prior military. Although their style of instruction is friendly to all, I found that certain elements of the instruction are common in the military, such as backwards planning, checks on learning, and after-action reviews, made learning very easy.
As for pricing, I have researched many of the costs involved with becoming a licensed skydiver, and Skydive The South has very competitive pricing. Skydiving can often be cost-prohibitive if you only consider upfront costs, but the way they have the cost breakdown by jump, if you continue your jump progression until your class A license, you actually end up saving quite a bit of money. Especially since you’re spreading your jumps and associated costs over a period of time.
Whether you just want to give a tandem jump a try, or begin an IAD or AFF progression to getting licensed, Skydive The South will give you the best experience possible. There is no doubt in my mind that I will make every jump until I achieve my class A license with them, and many more after. Come out and jump! You won’t regret it. – via
