Brazil Jungle Tours not what was promised, please note that the agency has under 60 reviews despite being in buisness for over a 30year períod. Apparantly the agency has changed names several times. Very surprised to find the agency recommened by Lonely Planet and Trip Advisor. Do not waste your time or money with them. They do not provide an authentic or positive experience.
They are very unorganised, Guides dont know timetables and often delay activities and then finish them ahead of schedule.
They do not have rights to walk on the trail near where their Lodge is. This is why they will only walk about 3km into the forest and then turn back always at the same point and always the same trail. The Lodge is on a tiny island surrounded by marsh/water so you are dependent on them completly. For a long description and details, keep reading.
Long versión: (review written during a 5hour period of waiting for an activity to begin at the Lodge on day 3 which we were only supposed to visit on the 1st day all 5!!!)
Myself and my Girlfriend arrived in Manaus on the 5th of February by boat from Santarém. We were excited to visit the city briefly and then spend some quality time in the Amazon. We decided that it was a good idea to do a trip with a guide. We understood that going to and agency was the way to do It. Só we spent the next day visiting several different agencys to hear about their packages and offers. Prices varied from 1800rias – 4000rias for 5days and 4nights in the Amazon rainforest. Understanding that the Amazon is massive we wanted to see as much of it as we could in the short space of time we had. We visited and spoke to Christian in his agency. (Brazilian Jungle Tours). The guy was very friendly and seemed reliable and trustworthy. We explained to him that we were looking to spend 4nights and 5days in the Jungle and that we wanted to see lots of nature and different places. He explained that he could offer 1night in a Lodge with Bed and Breakfast followed by the rest with càmping and trekking continuously from one place to another in the jungle South of Manaus with a Guide. He explained that the days were intense with lots of activities, including canoeing, birdwatching, survival skills, swimming with dolphins, visiting and staying with a native family/community, medicinal information related to the forest, fishing, càmping and of course trekking and staying overnight in different parts of the jungle.
So the next morning we decided to take the offer and pay for the trip which must be payed only in Cash.
(We We Were only given a receipt for the 1st payment of cash by the way)
Anyways the agency and trip sounded great, but reality pretty terrible.
If i can think in anyway possitive about agency, the Lodge provided by the agency and run by a young man (Wesley) provided great food and good accomodation. Basically if you are your late 60s retired and are looking for a very relaxing and uneventful time this agency is probably for you. The first day is as promised the rest false. – via
