We spend the most wonderful week at Oneta. The hospitality there is beyond almost everything I have experienced so far. Everything is thought through in the smallest detail, to make you feel as comfortable and welcomed as possible. The bureas are a dream and the food is amazing. We had some dietary restrictions and the whole team went out of their way to fulfill our wishes. We learned a lot about the fijian culture during the events Oneta offers but also through getting to know the staff. All in all it exceeded my expectations by far and I am already looking forward to return there. – via google

Oneta Resort is one of the best places to stay in Fiji. It is far from the usual touristy areas, and that’s one of its main appeal. Once you step out from the boat taking you to Ono Island you are welcomed with a big Bula smile and the kindest, most honest people you can meet. The bures are comfortable, the food is 5*, activities are plentiful. If you are interested in scuba diving Oneta is the place to be, and if you want some quiet time you can have your own private island for a day.
Thank you Richard, Anne and everyone else for making this a fabulous vacation, we’ll be back next year!! – via google

A truly magical place! If you want off-the-beaten-track, away from the mad rush of 21st century life, this is the place. Arriving by boat, you’ll be serenaded by the staff, and from then on, you’re made to feel like part of a large extended family. The staff are outstanding – warm, friendly, funny, knowledgeable and genuinely concerned that you are enjoying yourself. We went to Oneta for the incredible snorkelling on the Astrolabe reef, and we were not disappointed. It’s stunning – and we visited two difference sites every day we were there apart from the day we went on the hike to the waterfall.

The meals are wonderful and eaten communally at a long table, with manager Richard and staff Anne & Russi, and provide a great chance to get to know them, and fellow guests.

Our accommodations in “Vesi” were very comfortable – the bures are spacious and feature private outdoor showers surrounded by tropical plants (makes the bathroom at home look pretty boring!). The grounds are beautiful – and lovingly maintained by Jonani, who also gave us a great tour one afternoon. The resort grows many of their own vegetables and fruit and it was fun to see where it all came from, as well as find out more about the native trees and plants.

There is plenty to keep everyone busy – from snorkelling, to diving, to kayaking to hiking, to local village visits, or a day retreat at your own private island. Or you can relax in a hammock with a book – or join the staff at 5 pm in a game of volleyball. Saturdays there a traditional Kava ceremony, followed by a lovo (ground oven cooked meat, fish and vegetables) – all accompanied by wonderful singing from the staff. Music is very much a part of Fijian culture and we always enjoyed hearing them sing. Our last night at the resort we fell asleep to the distant sound of singing from the staff quarters – it was lovely.

We’ve been to many places over the years, and nowhere has the staff been so welcoming, so genuinely happy; they laugh, sing, joke amongst themselves and with the guests and you’re always greeted with a cheerful “Bula!” Much of that is due to manager Richard’s deep understanding of and respect for Fijian culture, and owners’ Liz & Martin’s obvious dedication to making Oneta a truly unique experience, and in doing so, supporting the surrounding Fijian communities as well. Vinaka to Richard, Anne, Russi (Richard #2), Messa, Nu, Bill, Meli, Vo, the 2 Jonanis, Lizzie, Api, Sam, Seko, Annie, Ben, Te, Bose, Is, and everyone else – and apologies if I’ve misspelled your names. ~ Paddy & Richard – via google

This is a very special place. I have experienced a large variety of resorts across Fiji, and Oneta really stands out. The location is magical, the staff were friendly and very quick to anticipate the needs of guests. The food is fantastic, and the options for activities are varied enough to keep everyone busy and entertained while also being the perfect place to relax as well. I fully recommend Oneta, it is a must visit for nature lovers and anyone looking to experience the rich culture of Fiji. – via google

Oneta is a wonderful resort with a luscious setting, incredible reef, great food, and, above all, amazing staff. From the moment you meet the crew at the airport in Kadavu, through the welcoming ceremony; from the cheerful greetings throughout the day to the universal can-do spirit, the staff truly elevate the experience. I visited during the rainy season so certain activities were either harder to accomplish, or simply didn’t work out, but there were always backups that were just as good and the extensive list of dive and snorkel sites ensures that there’s always somewhere beautiful to visit even when the resort itself is beset with wind and rain. The communal dining and excursion experience was great for me since I also got to know the other guests and felt more like I was joining a really cool and diverse family than just staying in a hotel for a week. – via google

Oneta is a truly amazing place.

Have been back home a week and I’m still smiling. It’s hard to know where to start with the compliments.

The resort itself is beautiful and the villa we stayed in was exceptional. The meals were fabulous with much of the produce coming from the resort garden (which we had a tour of). If you’re active there’s plenty of options. The diving experience is incredible, the best we’ve ever experienced with vast amounts of hard and soft coral and sea-life. The snorkelling was similarly fabulous, especially the short trips to see the manta. The kayaking, outrigger excursion, fishing and hiking were all fantastic.

But what stood out were the people. Everyone. We have never laughed and smiled so much in one week. – via google

Our trip to Oneta was delayed a few days by a small cyclone, so we were stuck in Nadi. More than once we thought of just skipping it and going home. So glad we didn’t!! Once we finally got to the Kedavu airport, we were well taken care of. The boat ride over was fun, and we enjoyed the scenery and the flying fish. Everything at the resort is wonderful, from the accommodations to the food, and the staff is the absolute best– fun as well as attentive. Jonani delivered hot water every morning, so we didn’t even have to heat up water for tea. There are plenty of snacks in case you get hungry, but we didn’t eat them all. Repeat: the staff is amazing! We never experienced one bit of a bad attitude. They seem to like each other, too. We noticed them doing things together, like hiking. We were only there 5 nights, so we didn’t meet everyone, but those we did meet totally made our trip. As for the food, after three meals a day, you would think we would get tired of eating at the same place, but we were amazed at the variety and how delicious it all was. I don’t know how to dive, but we went snorkeling every day, and the excursions are a great way to get to know some of the water/boat staff as well as the other guests (who were also all interesting and friendly). Every time we went on an excursion, it was as if we had the ocean and the snorkeling spots to ourselves. Once we saw another boat at the manta ray cleaning station, but that was it. We also kayaked and snorkeled right off the beach, and there are a lot of fish and turtles out there. You think there is no way a place deserves all these 5 star reviews, but Oneta does. I should add that the owner (Martin) and the manager (Richard) were very communicative and helpful from beginning to end. When our friends ask us where we stayed in Fiji, we tell them how much we loved Oneta. Thank you all for a great vacation!!! – via google

The untouched beauty and peaceful energy is allowed to reach you here like no other place on earth that I’ve experienced. There’s unfiltered joy surrounding you at Oneta and it’s left to you to decide the level of engagement you want with the always kind and diligent staff every day. From snorkeling with stingrays to meditating as the sun rises every morning creating a stunningly unique picture filling you with gratitude, this is what brings me back to Ono Island again and again! – via Google

5.0/ 5

The best holiday my wife and I have had so far and wish we had spent a few more extra days in this beautiful remote island resort.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Richard, the Manager was friendly and very well organised with accommodation, food, excursions, etc. The food was excellent and me being a vegetarian, should say that I was very well taken care of.

The most memorable experience was snorkelling with Manta Rays and my wife being a non-swimmer too snorkelled with them. A very big thank you to George and Stone. Without their guidance and assistance, I don’t think my wife would have got into the ocean. Can’t imagine that she also went kayaking alone the following day.

The Kava night was beautiful with everyone drinking kava, singing, dancing and having the traditional Fijian dinner.

Can’t wait to make another trip with my children to Oneta. – via Google

A Wonderful Two Weeks and a Beautiful Fiji Experience
August 2022
Would like to keep this place a secret but that would not be fair to the wonderful people who look after the guests every day. Yes, it is remote but getting there is not difficult and actually added to the experience. The flight from Nadi to Kadavu provided great views over the inland areas of Viti Levu before we headed over the beautiful seascape and onto the approach over the beach to Vunisea Airport. Met by smiling faces in the ‘terminal’ before a short walk across the road, onto the beach, and into our boat transport to Ono Island. On the way, we stop at a deserted beach for a picnic lunch. We are greeted as we arrive at Oneta with the beautiful singing voices of a number of the staff. The bures are beautifully laid out, traditionally finished, and very comfortable. The outdoor private shower is also a great feature. We stayed for two weeks and were very sad to leave. Within a short period of time, most of the staff were addressing us by name, and we soon got to know their names (I did however often get the names wrong but no one seemed to mind). We were treated like family. There was no shortage of things to do, particularly water based activities with wonderful trips for snorkeling and diving at different areas of the reef. We had a number of visits to the Manta Ray ”cleaning station” to view these magnificent creatures. We did a number of short hikes, a couple of which were to waterfalls and swimming holes. Then when we wanted to relax there were hammocks and day beds spread strategically across the site for a comfortable read or snooze. We took advantage of the opportunity to spend a day on a private beach complete with picnic lunch and kayaks. The food throughout the two weeks was great, with good variety, well presented, and well prepared. The choice of eating at a communal table, or at a private table, served everyone well. Kava nights allowed us to get to see how much of a wonderful community has been established around the activities of this resort. We got to meet some of the families of staff, and we were treated to their beautiful singing. Late afternoon on many days, volleyball was played by staff and guests. On other days, and dependent on the tide, touch football was on display on the beach. I could go on but I won’t. You can probably gather that we enjoyed every minute of our visit to Oneta, so much so that soon after returning home we booked again for next year. Can’t wait. Thank you to Richard, Martin, Liz, and all of the wonderful staff who made our stay at Oneta such a great experience. – via Google

5 stars is not enough. Amazing place, staff is kind, caring, and incredibly helpful. Best equipped dive center in Fiji, with top of the range diving gear, thoroughly mantained and organized. Amazing diving team too, never felt so safe. Rooms/Bures are spotless and have everything you need, food is good, and breakfast is the best part of the day. Snorkel with Mantas for an out-of -this world experience. Various activities (snorkeling, dives, picnics, fishing etc) organized everyday, but you can also just lay on the beach and pretend you are a star fish. – via Google
