We went whale watching on the raft. All the three crew members were great but the Naturalist, Brittany, was superlative. She is also a “whale paparazzi” and identified for us the two mother hump back whales (with infants) and gave us their known travel history (true) that gave us a show. We saw also a “fisher” of hammerhead sharks. Unfortunately no dolphins that day, despite the captain racing all over the bay to search for them. A true 5 star experience. Best fun we had in Hawaii. – via google

This was the perfect place to go to rent snorkel equipment. They took such good care of us and had very reasonable rates. They took the time to make sure our equipment fit perfectly and then showed where we could go for the best snorkeling adventure. It’s a treat to find a business that cares! – via google

I think this is the best place to rent scuba and snorkel gear on this side of the island! It was easily the cheapest place, and they helped us figure out exactly which size of everything my boyfriend and I needed. When we come back to the Big Island, we’ll definitely be renting from here again. – via google

I’ve been using the Scuba Shack for tank and equipment rentals for the last 10 years. The place is a museum of diving history. I have met few divers with better air consumption than Jay. He is a straight forward operator. I enjoyed going beyond resort diving, and really getting off the beaten path. Jay’s prices were great, he has left tanks out after hours for me a number of times. I’ve tried to get my tanks filled at other shops, and haven’t always had good luck. The Shack has been my go to. – via google

Do Not Use This Bussiness! So unprofessional! Didn’t even want to see our certification cards to fill our tanks! The only person in the shop was the owner’s self proclaimed yard worker, who admittedly was not a diver! But he did mention that he would look at our cert cards because of a lawsuit the shop was invlovled in!…. But then didn’t even look at both of ours! Also when we went to return out tanks they were randomly closed on a wednsday when they said they would be open! I have worked in the dive industry and was and instructor in the past and I think the only reason this shop is in business is because they are a little less expensive than the competition, but you get what your pay for. Buyer be where! – via google

Yes, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, etc, etc. but that’s not the greatest part. This store has stuff you will not find anywhere else. When you walk in, you might find just about anything related to diving, from a brownie’s third lung to a rare fin part.
Ask for something other dive shops have never even heard of, and Jay will probably say “oh, yeah, I got one of those in the back somewhere.” … and he does. – via google
