My husband and I recently finished a shore dive / refresher. I highly, highly recommend both Maui Dreams and Curly, our divemaster. As a newer diver, I wanted to brush up on equipment setup and buoyancy before our boat dive the following day. Curly took the time to walk our small group through equipment safety checks and repeatedly emphasized safety and technique in a straightforward way. The dive itself was incredible – full of whale sounds and reef animals that Curly pointed out throughout the dive. I went from feeling slightly nervous and apprehensive about diving to fully confident and excited (and ended up booking two more dives after the refresher). I highly recommend Maui Dreams and their sister company Island Style Diving for both experienced and recently certified divers – the emphasis on a safe, seamless experience is top notch. – via google

OMG!!! There is no other words to describe this adventure. This will be a high light of my life for the rest of my life. Ed was so informative, patient and kind. We were a party of 6 so he had his work cut out for him. Ed took his time to explain EVERYTHING and was exactly the professional gentleman I needed being I have a big fear of water…Thank you Ed for an experience of a life time!!! – via google

Fantastoc first experience for my teenagers. Did the discover scuba with Kerry. Saw lots, kids learned tons and we had a full 50 minute dive to 30 feet depth. Great way to try scuba before committing to certification. Kerry was friendly and very knowledgeable and accommodating. Highly recommend – via google

I completely concur with an earlier review – be careful with this company! I was referred to them when a dive with Maui Dreams was cancelled due to boat repairs. Very sloppy operation with uncaring and lackadaisical guides. Owner and wife did not demonstrate professionalism and seemed not to care about their clients. I will just paste in that earlier review – I suggest you read it if safety is a concern – I was very concerned with my safety on the dive I took. No confidence in the company or crew.

The earlier review reads as follows:

“[We are] experienced divers. We’ve been diving with several companies in Hawaii, across the mainland and around the world, and never, not even in developing countries, have my wife and I felt as unsafe on a dive boat as we did with Ed Robinson Dive Adventures. The worst part was me running out of air 10 minutes into our first dive! I had checked my gear before going in, but when we were about 50 feet down, I ran out of air, mid breath. Luckily, there was another diver within arms reach and I was able to get his attention and his spare regulator. Once we got the divemaster’s attention he came to us and brought me back up. He hollered to the crew on deck “This one needs a new tank, it didn’t get filled.” As if this is a totally common thing. Once back on deck, as they were changing my completely empty tank out for a full one, the deckhand told me “Piece of advice, always check your gauges before going in.” Then they sent me back down by myself to find the dive group. Never once was I asked if I was ok, or offered an apology, only made to feel as if were my fault, despite the fact that we had rented our gear and the crew had therefore set it up on our behalf. There is absolutely no excuse for an unfilled tank to be on board a dive boat when it sets out.

This wasn’t even the only unsafe thing we noticed that day. The first red flag was that they never even asked to look at our certification cards. They simply had us write our card numbers on the waiver form right before boarding the boat but never seemed to check the information. But we figured, ok that happens sometimes, we’re certified so what’s the harm? Then, when we set out, the crew did not follow Coast Guard requirements regarding safety information. We were not told where life vests or fire extinguishers were. We did notice one sign for 7 adult life vests, but there were 12 people on board that day, so we don’t even know if there were enough vests for everyone on board. They did not go over any hand signals they use except for communicating air levels. On multiple occasions, divers were sent back to the boat on their own when they were getting low on air or time, despite the boat not being visible, and at the end of the first dive, the divemaster skipped the safety stop.

In addition to these safety concerns, the company also seemed to have little concern for the ecosystem, even during our time at the protected Marine Sanctuary of Molokini. Severals times the divemaster would poke at or harass wildlife including an octopus, or lift up large rocks or coral to look underneath them. Towards the end, it seemed like the dive master’s chief concern was taking underwater photographs for his own purposes, rather than ensuring the divers’ safety and respecting the environment.

In short, I absolutely do not recommend this company, based on their lack of concern for safety, or the ecosystem. I cannot imagine what could have happened to a less experienced diver during that trip and hope that they are able to make changes before a horrible accident occurs.

Update: I waited a week and a half to post this review to give the owners time to reply to my complaint first. 5 hours after posting this, I finally did get a reply and was given a refund. I will not be changing this review, however, because I feel that people have the right to know about these safety issues.” – via google

Great dive operation; very professional and safe. The dive guides (Dave and Dave) that we worked with were fantastic. I would love to dive with them again! The rental gear worked well and was in good shape. Boat was nice. Crew was fantastic and helpful. Never had or saw any issues, not even small ones. All the dives were where we wanted to be; and we got to dive the plan we felt was right for us. Only boat I’ll go with on Maui!

Did the 2 adventure dive, 3 tank advanced dives, and 2 tank scuba trips (7 dives). – via google

Did two days of diving with ERDA for a total of 4 boat dives on 1/24 and 1/24/19. The experience level of divers varied, but the DM’s were very helpful and accomidating. Excellent crew and divemasters! They know the area well, what to see and look out for, and were super helpful. Top notch!!! I would definitely recommend and would dive with them again! – via google

This is a great operation. Stellar captain and divemaster, and Ed is a great guide as well with many years of experience.

If you are a skilled diver, I highly recommend this boat, especially the Adventure X dive. Ed will take you to his favorite places for the current conditions.

This is also the only boat on Maui that will let you actually dive rather than treating you like an uncertified beginner doing an “experience scuba” type resort course. – via google

We’ve spent today’s morning with Ed and enjoyed every bit of our snorkeling trip. Not only did we see a number of turtles, we also got a fantastic introduction into the local ecosystem, how to recognize different families of fish, and how to snorkel safely. Ed has been fantastic throughout and I can highly recommend booking this tour! – via google
