Captain Dan and PADI Instructors/Dive Masters Fernando & Kaitlin provided the most amazing experience for my group. In fact, every person I talked to at Big Island Divers (while planning our trip) was patient, helpful and so friendly! Most important to me was the Discover SCUBA class I took. I’m an older gal, and have been wanting to see if I would be a fit for SCUBA diving for quite some time. And now I know the answer — yes I am! I loved it, and am now going to pursue certification. I credit instructor Fernando for this, and am sure that with someone less capable, I would not have that same feeling.
Fernando worked very closely with me and one other new diver. He’s an excellent teacher — he’s very clear in the instructions he gives, and he helped me overcome my fears by the calm feelings he exuded. I felt like I was in good hands, which is a huge piece of the picture.
I’m now planning on getting the confined water portion of the certification here on the mainland, and then want to complete my open water in Hawaii — I hope Fernando will still be with Big Island Divers next year! – via

Great dive outfit. Did a two tank and manta night dive with them in March 2023. Kaitlin was dive master on both. She was professional, well organized, shared good information about dive sites, supportive of clients needing a bit more attention. Had 5-7 clients. Dive boat was well run with excellent skippers Dan and Tyler. Shade, hot chocolate, water, treats. I used their bcd, regulator and wetsuit and all were in good condition. Would go with them again next trip. – via

If you are debating a manta night snorkel and are a relatively good swimmer and snorkeler, definitely book right now! Our #1 favorite experience of the trip. Big Island Divers was a great company to use, great crew and some nice snacks (including cookies and hot cocoa after exiting the cold water) to add to the trip. Big thanks to our snorkel guides Jamie and Jack for keeping everyone safe and sharing all the fun manta knowledge. Also thanks for Captain Dan for taking us out there. – via

Snorkeling in the ocean in the dark at first would seem very scary, but the crew made us feel safe and comfortable not afraid, and we were able to enjoy a most unique experience
A gigantic beautiful 12 foot manta ray came 1 inch from my face. She was intelligent and did somersaults for us for 20 minutes. Thank you to the crew for letting us share this experience with them. They educated us on this magnificent animal, and led us to an area where we were able to actually see them swimming freely. And very up close. But most importantly, the top notch crew kept us safe. – via

Pretty amazing manta ray snorkel with the Big Island Divers. Captain Tyler, and crew Joe and Cosmo were absolutely amazing, informative, helpful and fun. The mantas were on show and we enjoyed a full series of manta encounters over the time we were in the water. Always felt safe, instruction was useful and interesting and the team was good at anticipating needs and concerns. Take the wet suit they offer (it gets cold in the dark). Well worth the time and cost! – via
