Langkah Tak Sampai Ke Puncak

Liburan hari ketiga di Bali, Sabtu 23 Desember 2023, kami mencoba hiking ke Gunung Agung, Karangasem, Bali, yang puncak tertingginya, Puncak Sejati sekitar 3.142 MDPL/meter.

Mulai berangkat mendaki dari Pos Pendakaian (base camp) Taman Edelweiss, Karangasem, jam 13:00. Ada empat pos pendakian yang harus kami lalui. Setelah delapan jam berjuang mendaki, akhirnya kami tiba jam 21:00 di camp area, yang tingginya sekitar 2.800 MDPL/meter.

Tapi sayang. Istri sudah tak sanggup untuk meneruskan, hingga ke Puncak Sejati. Saya tak tega meninggalkan ia sendirian. Meski begitu besar keinginan pribadi untuk bisa kesana. Jadilah kami tidur ditenda, dalam dekapan suhu 4 derajat celcius, yang bikin badan menggigil. Meski sudah pakai baju hangat, sarung tangan, dan masuk ke dalam sleeping bag.

Sekitar jam 02:00 dini hari, Minggu 24 Desember, guide kami, Wayan (19), membangunkan kami. Menanyakan apakah Saya akan naik ke Puncak Sejati. Saya katakan tidak. Tidak sampai hati saya meninggalkan ia sendirian di camp area. Karena tidak ada siapa pun, bila saya melanjutkan mendaki. Semua orang di camp area berangkat ke puncak.

Kami turun dari camp area jam 07:30, dan tiba kembali di base camp Taman Edelweiss jam 13:30. Tujuh jam perjalanan, yang tidak lebih ringan dibanding saat mendaki. Karena medannya cukup curam, dan banyak kerikil kecil. Ada tiga kali istri saya tergelincir, meski tidak sampai luka atau terkilir. Beberapa kali harus ngesot menuruni jalur yang sangat curam dan licin. Ditambah lagi turun hujan.

If you’re in Bali and fond of hikes, tick this off in your list. It is the highest peak in Bali island and the view, the sunrise and the challenge going up is priceless. I started the hike at 1030pm and arrived at the true summit 645am. It’s only 7kms on edelweiss route but it’s steep and challenging due to the pebbles. You can hike on your own but get a guide for your convenience. – via google

I would never recommend this track to those who are not fond of extreme mountain climbing – the trail is very difficult. As we are quite sportive couple, enjoying Crossfit, boulderling and me being a power yoga teacher – we couldn’t reach the top, we climbed around 3 hours long up and then were so exhausted and terrified of the way back that we turned. From the very beginning, the slope is very steep and the solidified lava along the way is your path. The stones are sharp and wet, very unstable. Hiking boots and poles are the bare minimum. Nature is alive and wild, there are no people. Be sure to take a guide as the mountain has many missing climbers and many deaths. Guide Made is our big recommendation +62 852-3750-0553 – via google
