Very cute little dive shop on the beach with a larger boat, bit hard to find but just go down the driveway for the resort and hang a right at the beach.

Did a few excellent dives (in terms of what I saw) and were it not for a certain situation, I would have given them 5 stars. It’s tough because my own dives were great, saw some incredible lemon sharks and the coral health and cover is pretty good, especially compared to Tahiti (although don’t expect Fakarava).

The situation I’m speaking of involved another person in our group, an older gentleman who wasn’t very confident in the water and not in the great shape. After about 20 minutes into our first dive, I turned around to find our divemaster was holding onto him, and the diver was breathing from the DM’s alternate reg…

Except, we didn’t end the dive, as you would when someone runs out of air… In fact, we did a pretty normal length dive (kudos to the divemaster for being so good on air), the whole time with this other diver breathing from the DM’s alternate.

This is dangerous, careless, and unprofessional. While on one level I’m happy my dives were not ruined, I’m a PADI dive instructor, and the safety of everyone comes first. With the DM sharing his air with this diver the entire time, if there had been an emergency with the other 4 of us, he would not have been able to help anyone else.

But the real fascination was that on our second dive, the exact same thing happened. It’s always a risk diving with other people, but I would have been far more comfortable with them ending the dive early, or sending up the older gentleman, or, better yet, telling him that he simply couldn’t dive and needed a refresher.

The gentleman was very nice, but this was yet another unprofessional experience Ive had in French Polynesia, where every single dive shop doesn’t seem to care about any PADI or SDI or SSI rules. – via google
