TLDR: small dive shop at a protected water park. Good scuba dive master. Good experience. Would go again.

The story: Three of us were staying at the Caribe Hilton and read about Scuba Dogs which is basically a 5-minute walk from our hotel. There is a protected snorkeling park behind it with small man-made structures, reef balls, and statues scattered around. There was a surprisingly good amount of marine life considering how many people snorkel there. For $80 you can do a 1 tank scuba dive using their equipment with a dive master who takes you out past the barrier to see the area outside.
We arrived at 1045 for our 11 am one tank dive. It looks like this location sees a lot of foot traffic snorklers, but their SCUBA equipment is acceptable, although their BCDs do not have integrated weights so I had to wear a weight belt for the first time while diving. My back started hurting toward the end of the dive. They had to call the dive master in from home – I guess someone dropped the ball on that one – no big deal, we hung around and talked. Our Dive master, Samual< showed up about 20 minutes later. He was a great fit for us. He made sure we were familiar with all the equipment and checked it with us. He worked with us at our skill level to make us feel safe but at the same time letting us explore as we felt comfortable. Great guy. Felt comfortable the whole time.
They have a wash tank for your gear if you bring it and lockers with a bathroom, so we felt like our belongings were going to be there when we came back from the dive.
Overall, we had a great experience and enjoyed the experience. It’s up to you to decide if $80 is too much for a relatively tame, one tank shore dive, but I enjoyed it as our first dive of the trip and a chance for our friend to get his sea legs back under him after not diving for a couple years.

The Good: fair price. Good staff. Samuel was great. Good location. Protected bay.

The bad: nothing

The mediocre: the gear is not the best but completely serviceable. The price? – via google

I did my Rescue Diver certification in October 2023. I had an incredible experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the location was ideal for practice and beautiful shore dives. I recommend for anyone who is looking to do a certification or try scuba. I’m looking forward to diving with them again on my next trip to Puerto Rico so they can take me to all the best dive sites. Could not recommend more strongly! – via google

My family of four was lucky enough to go on a snorkeling tour with Luna at scuba dogs yesterday. I cannot speak highly enough of the experience or our guide Luna. My youngest is 6 and she took him under her wing and made him comfortable. We had the most incredible afternoon and it is something the 4 of us will remember for the rest of our lives. To be able to see sea turtles in their natural environment was just beyond words. Again I cannot speak highly enough of our guide; Luna…she was spectacular. – via google

5.0/ 5

We had zero SCUBA experience before finding this PADI 5-star dive shop when planning our trip to San Juan. Our instructors, Paco and Dale, guided us over two days at Escambron Bay to complete our PADI Open Water diver certification. Their attention to detail and patience allowed us to learn at our own pace, with Dale offering valuable coaching to overcome my underwater mask removal apprehension and mastering buoyancy skills. If you have the time, there is an option to do your basic skill training in their pool off-site before the practice dives in the bay. Highly recommended for anyone seeking quality PADI certification training in 2-3 days. – via google

I finished my open water diver certification with Josh at Scuba Dogs. I had an amazing time, and the shop was nothing but professional and informative. They processed my PADI paperwork right away so I could immediately book some more adventures after completing my certification. I would come back to this shop just to say hi and do some snorkeling which they also offer! – via google
