The incredible team at Castaway Island hosted myself and my family for five days whilst we were there for a wedding. From the moment the water taxi began pulling up to the shore we were met with a cheerful welcoming party. All the hosts were incredibly delightful, helpful and all around amazing. It’s hard not to walk around the island with a smile on your face.
Each bure is air conditioned and comfortable. As part of the wedding package all members of our party were on the meal plan and this meant we were covered for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the option to dine either buffet or à la carte at lunch and dinner. My favourite dishes were the Fijian Kokoda (a ceviche like dish), heavenly beef from the 1808 restaurant and whatever the chefs special at the buffet was. A favourite amongst adult and children was definitely the rainbow ice cream :p Cocktails and drinks were made superbly by the wonderful Simi.
Most parents would probably agree that the free kids club was their favourite part of the island. Each of the activities attendants; Mikey, Millie, Jessie, Va & Peter Pan are so wonderful with children (and myself when I took part in activities like basket weaving and bangle, hula skirt and bookmark making). Big thank you to them for letting me be a kid again!
All non-motorised water activities were included free of charge and this meant you could snorkel, kayak, paddle board and windsurf to your hearts content. I highly recommend doing a sunrise or sunset kayak and if you go all the way around the island you might even see some goats.
Outer reef snorkelling was an eye opening experience and something I consider a must do!
There is so much praise I could sing for the Castaway team but it was their singing as we left that brought me to tears as it felt like I was saying goodbye to family. I will certainly be back in the not so distant future.
