Excellent place to stay, very friendly staff. Reason for 3 star rating, staff shortage (no one’s fault) but this impacted on services such as evening meals. One minute they are not doing them, the next they are. However, those who had purchased food from outside were able to sit and enjoy their meals in the dining room. Would improve with a signage system to inform residents of what is going on. Bar was open Friday/ Saturday night. Excellent evening and atmosphere. – via

To put it in one word, disappointing.
My girlfriend and I planned to spend the morning in Portland which we heard held great dives. First thing that was of course asked to us by the diving center guys was if it was our first dive in England, which we answered yes. I’m a divemaster and my girlfriend is advanced open water and we both have experience diving in different places in the world and can handle and adapt to different situations. However, after hearing that and without engaging any further conversation they already decided that we were going to do an “easy dive” which turned to be a 6m shallow dive in the harbour’s breakwater. It was as disappointing as it sounds.
Not to mention the interesting “English way” of diving which apparently is just going to the dive site, getting a quick brieffing by the boat driver and jumping into the water with no guide at all.
We ended up spending 130£ between hiring equipment and the dive that morning (for the 2 of us).
If you’re a local and plan to do many dives here (and have a bigger budget) maybe this is the dive center for you. If you’re a tourist trying to get a glympse of what English waters have to offer stay away from it. – via
