My 12 yr old daughter and I just recently obtained our PADI open water diver certification with Texan Scuba at the Blue Lagoon.
In short, it was amazing experience and I highly recommend them to anyone considering becoming a certified diver.
Our instructor was Bryan Blauvert, and the owner, Phil Riggs (who is himself a scuba instructor), was there to help the class run smoothly.
Bryan was an engaging and lively instructor. Having spent over 13 years in higher education, I’ve been around many teachers, and very few
had Bryan’s talent for teaching. And Phil, with a more personal teaching style was every bit as effective. Moreover, Phil was very good
at teaching my daughter, and took special care to make her feel comfortable with the skills we we’re being taught. So, even though both
my daughter and I came in with virtually no scuba experience, we are now both confident in our abilities to go open water diving,
and are in fact starting to plan our first few scuba trips overseas.
As far as location, the Blue Lagoon is a very nice place to dive. We will certainly be returning there keep up with our scuba skills.
They have a pool for confined water dives, and two lagoons for open water dives, with many interesting objects to explore underwater.
Visibility was relatively low (4-8 feet), but in my opinion it just added a sense of adventure to what we were doing.
The class took place from Friday 5:00 PM till Sunday 5:00 PM. On Saturday evening, the instructors grilled burgers for the entire class, which
was a very enjoyable experience (and surprisingly good burgers).
So, do yourself a favor and get your open water diver certification with Texan Scuba! – via
