All my dive training has been with Blue Marlin, at GiliT and Kuta Lombok, and I’m always impressed with the quality of service. So when I booked a trip to komodo to get some good current and mantas, I knew that Blue Marlin was the way to go.
I did 4 days and 3 nights on Ikan Biru, the live aboard. It’s is basic, but very comfortable and situated with everything you need for a relaxing and nature-filled time on and under the water. The open air deck for eating, chilling, dive briefings, and even sleeping is perfect. I didn’t realize how comfy the beds would be, our how much I’d enjoy that part of the experience. The breeze through the night kept the bugs away and the rocking of the boat was a nice lull to sleep. (The bathroom is a bit wet and the boat is shoe-free, so hopefully no one on the boat has a foot fungus to share)
The diving itself- incredible!! Mantas and sharks, but also nudis and octopus. The current was much more manageable than I was expecting (I have AOW and have 100+ dives). Unfortunately, due to the season, Shotgun wasn’t accessible, so I’ll need to come back to head to the north and take on those dives. I brought most of my equipment, but what I did use of theirs was well maintained.
The staff on the boat is awesome. Chef Josh has been on the boat since it began and keeps us all well fed and happy. The captains and deck hands know their boat, know the area, know how to dive (captain joined us on our last dive!) and know how to help divers.
It’s an expensive trip, but well worth the cost for such a wonderful experience. - via
