We’re sorry to bring down the rating of this experience, but in our case what we lived didn’t match other reviews at all. On the positive note, our driver Jasan was punctual and helpful so it somehow saved what was otherwise a complete fail. We give him 5 stars as he deserves it, but he should be part of some other review. What we’re reviewing here is experience of climbing Mount Batur with completely misplaced female guide who despite being cute and brining is to the top didn’t contribute in any significant way to enhance this trip. She didn’t speak good English (we specifically booked an ENGLISH tour guide) so our trekking was pretty much our group in silence walking up and down the vulcano. We were told nothing about the whole thing, zero information provided or things learned along the way. We literally don’t know her name after the whole experience and that says too much. It’s a bummer because at the same time we were seeing other guides taking care of their groups and teaching them stuff about vulcano and showing them around in details. We were left on our own to figure those things out. Once on top, there was no sunrise as the weather didn’t permit (you can’t predict the weather and that’s fine). However, we were left again alone to sit in the cold rain waiting for the breakfast until we figured out we can seek shelter in a small cabin - only to find our guide having her breakfast there first before she takes care of ours. Other guides gave their groups tour around the crater and explained some things - our guide didn’t even tell us about it as we discovered it on our own while she was already dragging us down. Our expectations were high, but the whole experience fell flat to a level where disappointment spreads to Pelago as booking agent and everything else later. Hot springs were mildly fun even though crowded and luwak coffee planctation was informative but it’s sales pitch so don’t be surprised that main purpose of you being there is for you to buy overpriced coffee and tea. Based on our experience, we would not recommend this to anyone and we feel obligated to share that it’s not so positive and colourful as other reviewers say. - via
