(Note: Please look elsewhere for a review on the Atlantis Dumaguete Resort accommodations and diving—this is only a review of the resort’s vegan fare.) As a whole, the Republic of the Philippines is not a particularly vegan-friendly destination, which was a hard-to-swallow reality for three “vegan” (i.e., no animal- or seafood-derived products) divers on a 14-day, all-inclusive, two location dive trip. Because of this forecasted potential conflict, we made it no secret to Atlantis we were coming. Even so, the first week was a difficult dietary challenge at Atlantis Puerto Galera, and we were apprehensive about our second week at Atlantis Dumaguete. It was there we met head chef, Varry. This guy enjoys his craft, and it shows. He had a firm understanding of our dietary restrictions and lived up to the challenge. His dishes were so creative and delicious, they were on par with some upper-tier American all-vegan restaurants. For the week, every starter (soup, salad, etc.), main course, and dessert were unique. He took great pride in his work and came tableside to explain each meal offering. I am posting a few pictures of various meals we had, but cannot recall the names of each dish; suffice it to say that Varry made this dining experience at Atlantis Dumaguete a special one that we will not soon forget. Oh, and the traditional meals got rave reviews from our meat-eating counterparts. - via google
