I had a great week with the B Surfer school when I came during Hurricane Agatha end of May 2022. Although the surf retreat was cancelled due to the hurricane, Anna and Jose still took care of me. Anna Whatsapped me to gave a heads up as to what supplies to get to prep for the hurricane prior to it hitting Puerto Escondido. Anna also Whatsapped frequently to ensure I was ok during the storm, and to arrange for surf lessons with Jose to ensure the best conditions for my level.
The facilities where I lived was chill, clean and had a great view of the sunset by the ocean on a rooftop! The facilities also has space for yoga practice and the pool on the property was a nice refreshing dip after coming back from surfing in the ocean. And the mangos! Fresh mangos fell down during the hurricane and it was so nice to have for breakfast! The caretakers Monica and Alex were always around and friendly if you had questions or just wanted to chat. :)
In terms of surf, I had a goal to progress to a short board and to work on duck diving. Jose went out with me every day after the hurricane and I worked on my duck dives at La Punta. He gave great tips on working on my body mechanics and where to position/time in the water with the short board. I got it after 4 days! I achieved my goal for this surf trip: to progress to a short board and to learn how to consistently duck dive. Thank you, Jose for all your care and guidance. I had a blast learning from you and your knowledge of the ocean. Thank you for sharing your love of surf with me. :) If you want a kind, funny, passionate and knowledgeable water man to teach you the ways of surf, Jose is your man :)
Anna also made sure I was safe and taken care of as a single female visiting Puerto. I hope to return one day for another surf trip! Anna and Jose are now part of my surf family. Thank you to you both, and I wish you all continued success with those who come to you for surf lessons at B Surfer.
