I traveled to Green Island March 2024 and it was so-so. Green Island is a popular spot for tourists like myself and last time I traveled to Cairns I went to Fitzroy so this time I wanted to try out a different island. I’m more of an island gal compared to traveling far out on the reef. It’s nice to have the option to lay on a beach while also being able to snorkel. Snorkeling here is definitely better than at Fitzroy. Although Fitzroy is better for hiking. Just depends on what you want! Check-in is easy but I would suggest getting to the terminal 45 minutes before departure because the line can run long and so you can get settled in the boat with the coffee and tea that’s offered. There were also rough seas when traveling out on the 8:30 boat but it improved for the 2:30 return trip. This timeframe was perfect for my needs. Sitting in the back of the boat is also better than up front! I didn’t like how the crew was constantly upselling reef activities while on the boat out. Most of this seems like a cash grab and while I did have a good day on the island and snorkeling the price could have overall been less than what you get…but hard to avoid. - via
