Excellent service, great range of equipment and brands!
Popped in with a list of items I needed. I was looking to get replacement parts for my fins, straps for attaching gear to my BCD, a multi-tool for tightening various components. A few days later, I needed a frame for my new camera and various attachments and straps.
I dealt with two different staff and I have to say that they were both super helpful, spoke perfect English, never pushed a product too hard and gave me insights from their own experience with many items I was interested in.
I'm definitely a convert and will absolutely make Diving Adventure my go to shop for all future diving needs! Ticked every box for me, with range of equipment, knowledgeable and pleasant staff, easy location to find and all round a very enjoyable experience! Very happy with all my acquisitions! - via
Excellent diveshop, superb dive leaders, great diving experiences!
We just spent 10 days diving in Malapascua and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and definitely recommend choosing Sea Explorers for their high standards of safety and service.
BASICS
Every day the available dives were indicated on a wall, and divers can opt for which trip they want to join up to 3 days ahead. Divemasters (DMs) are assigned by the centre, but I believe you generally keep the same one throughout your trip, if they are available. Ratios were never more than 4 divers to one DM. The cheapest way to pay for dives is pre-booking and pre-paying. The more you dive, the cheaper they are. By no means is this cheap, but diving rarely is (see price sheet photo). Nitrox is extra and every diving day around Malapascua comes with a 300 pesos "sanctuary fee," 400 pesos when off to see the Thresher sharks. BBQs on day trips are 350 pesos, cash only (best if it's exact change) and paid at the end of the boat trip. Pay accumulated sanctuary fees at the end of your trip.
GEAR
Gear is stored in a room that is locked overnight, and has some smart storage solutions for hanging regs, BCD, etc. Equipment is typically loaded in the mornings by the crew in crates. They take good care and all you have to do is confirm all your stuff is on the boat. After the trip, they will help you unload everything and bring it up to the diveshop. There are big basins for washing specific gear. The DMs may offer to wash your stuff, but you are also welcome to clean off your own gear (as we did).
STAFF
There are a number of DMs and they ensure ratios are super low. We were lucky to meet Martin (a senior dive master with over 26 years experience) as soon as we docked. He was personable, knowledgeable and really made our whole trip super safe, easy, customisable and comfortable! He sorted out gear, offered coffee, discussed diving trip options, key attractions, outlined the dive plans and was always candid about where he felt conditions would be best. He has an excellent depth of experience and was happy to dive how we preferred - avoiding currents, maximising dive time, not going too deep and being patient when looking for sharks. All the office staff and crew on every boat were happy and friendly, many staff learned our names within days and would say hi when we saw them on shore around the island.
DIVE SITES
There are a tonne of dive sites around Malapascua and nearby islands. Kimud Shoal is the biggest attraction, as that is where the Thresher sharks come to be cleaned by the reef fish. There are multiple island trips - Gato, Capitancillo and Calanggaaman, Chocolate - for different variants of dive (cave/tunnel, wall, reef). Around Malapascua itself you can dive pinnacles, open sandy bottom, a house reef, etc. Mostly easy diving, unless there is a current forcing a change to a different site. All Sea Explorer's own boats are in good condition, clean, nicely designed, etc.
NOTE: The Coast Guard decides when conditions are unsafe, so don't blame the crew if you can't go somewhere - they lobby hard to go as often as possible, but the Coast Guards are the ones who make the final call.
Overall, had a great time with a great dive shop! Highly recommend! - via
