The resort has more than its share of drawbacks, most are advertised before you make the booking:
- No air conditioning or fan in the room
- To get to certain rooms, you need to climb steep stairs
- No mobile reception
- At low tide, you beed to walk in mud to check-in/out
- No beach; etc
With those limitations, I would expect the resort to go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable to compensate, especially since the resort is quite expensive.
That is not the case unfortunately. There is a constant feeling that the owner is trying to cut cost on the expense of the guests.
I was there for 6 nights, and booked four 2-tank guided dives, since the main attraction of Kadavu is its reef. The first two dives were a disgrace, they took me as close as possible to the resort inside the reef, where the deepest we dived was 11 meters! Also, I requested to do the manta ray dive, which they begrudgingly agreed to, and only after the fact I realised that it was because they used the dive boat to drop checked-out guests at the dock near the airport and then to pick up new guests. Consequently, they cut my two manta dives short, making it 25 min only each. And they still charged me the FJD100 fuel surcharge for that dive, even though they used the boat for other purposes on that day.
The meals are very small, and with no alternatives, so if you don’t like it then tough luck.
The staff was very nice, but it seems the are bound by the owner’s wishes to cut down the cost. - via
